OT: recovering from surgery
oh you POOR sweetie!!!!! Anything around my throat would be dreadful, too. My dear sis had her thyroid out as well, but they knew going in with her that it was malignant, and to boot the worst type of thyroid cancer. So far so good with her...it's been two years. She had to do the radioactive thing and be away from her two tiny boys, for two weeks, what a trial. You may already know that most thyroid cancers, even the ugly ones, usually are very slow growing. I just pray that you will not face any more challenges with this.
I had a bad reaction to my first c-section anesthesia...same thing, a ten day headache so bad I could not raise my head without vomiting. You will be getting something different next time, no doubt. Wow...how awful. This is a test, it is only a test, Em!!!!! Just be patient and roll with it all. I will pray for you that all will end up well. I hope you can get past this first few awful days. ((((Em)))))))))
((((THANKYOU)))
It's times like this you need suppport, so thanks.
Your sister sounds like she went through the wringer... good to hear she is doing well now.
I am still not 100% from that anesthesic- I get giddy and fade out still. It really knocks you about doesn't it? I think it was a shock to me- I always had great recovery in the past- even from my caesareans. That headache... it's hard to function with a headache. I must admit to thinking mid "this headache is killing me" that I was grateful I didn't have this reaction after my caesareans with a new baby to tend to. That must have been hard on you Neecee.
I remind myself that I have been through alot, and you are right this is just a hurdle.
Slowly feeling more normal,
The good bit is that I don't have much appetite so at least I am not eating my stress!

Hi, Em!
I had the same surgery 3 years ago. I had a nodule (the doctor said as large as a golf ball) growing behind one side of my thyroid. They took out 1/2 of the thyroid (like they did to you). It was benign. They only put dressing at the incision point. I couldn't feel it at all. This doctor was also a plastic surgeon (lucky me), so you can't even tell where the incision was. I was told that my throat may hurt and I may be hoarse, but it didn't happen. I was fine. So sorry you're having such a hard time. I also had my gallbladder out in 1989. Are you having the laser surgery, or will they cut you open? I hear things have changed and it's not a big surgery anymore. Hang in there. I'm praying that your pain is and will be minimal. Hugs, Bren
Thanks for the hugs and support Bren!
Thanks for sharing 'war stories' with me. It helps to hear people who have been through this before me. Mine wasn't quite that size- more the size of a large fig.
I wish wish wish that I just had a dressing on the incision like you had. My incision has multiple steri strips to close the wound then a clear dressing over the lot. The clear one is the annoying one- it starts just below my collar bone and reaches 1/2 way up my neck and wraps to the side of the neck both sides. Hence the choking feeling. My surgeon has PS training too- so I pray I get a result as good as you did.
My gallbladder itself is no good, so they have to take the whole thing out- laproscopically is their plan but as the gallbladder is 'shrunken' and weird it increases the risk of open gallbladder surgery. I don't quite get that bit though- if it's smaller I might need a bigger incision? Who'd guess that!
As I said to Neecee, the best bit is that the initial shock of a post surgery ((( 9lb ))) gain has subsided as that weight soon disappeared and I am now back to normal. Luckily I don't feel very hungry or I'd be eating my stress.
