Worst Night EVER

I am currently a college student and I work on campus for the Alumni Center. I call alumni to update their files and ask for donations. Tonight was the WORST NIGHT EVER! I call alumni and they were all rude, rude, rude, rude, rude. Even when they said, I don't mean to be rude, they were rude. I got yelled at, my phone wasn't working so every other call was either dropped or it was so quiet I couldn't hear what was being said. On average I can bring in over $100 a night, but tonight I only got one pledge for $25. Way below par. I'm so frustrated. All I want to do is sit down with a big bowl of spaghetti and binge. I made a really good dinner, but I didn't really like it, so I only nibbled at it. I need help to keep my mood and my hunger from taking over my good senses. Gah!!! I HATE when people are so mean. It's just my job. I don't do it to **** you off personally. Why don't people understand that?!

well, since you are not in control of the choice of words that others use or the mood they might be in, blow it off. Your boss expects you to show up, make the calls, you did that, mission accomplished. In this day and age of telemarketers, it is hard also from their perspective.  I know for us, we finally drag home after about 10 hours of work stress, trying to eat supper, phone ringing off the hook. I am not as nice as i can be either, quite frankly. I usually say, honey, you caught us at a bad time then click...hang up. I seriously do try to remember that that is a real person on the other end of the line, but fa-chry-eye! Leave me ALONE. This is the bad part of your job, so just accept that there will be nights like this. Could be worse...you could be a pooperscooper...or a ditch digger....or be unemployed wishing you could be hung up on or ????? AND...more importantly...take a minute here and realize that you might be using work stress as an EXCUSE to pig out. There must be at least 40 other non-food ideas that you can hook into? RIGHT????????

I'm sorry your job sucked last night :(  Do you just randomly call people- or business'? I'm on a "no call" list so if I DO get a call- which is ALWAYS really early (we are 4 hours behind the east coast) or right during supper... I do get upset. But that's because they have disregarded the no-call list. At any rate... I'm sorry it was a rough night- hopefully today will go better for you! FIGHT that urg to binge! YOU CAN DO IT!!!

No. We don't call randomly and we AREN'T tellemarketers. We call people who have graduated from the university or have given to the university in the past and we update files and fundraise for the university. We don't solicit, we don't tellemarket, and we don't call anyone randomly. If someone asks to be taken off our list, we do. People just don't understand what we do.

(((((hugggsssss)))))

I got to hand it too you, that is one tough job.    Like someone else said, it could be tougher, although I know that doens't help. Maybe you need to concentrate on leaving your job AT your job.  Don't bring it home, if your job is tough on you emotionally.  From another emotional eater, you DON"T need to be bring this home!  Maybe 15 minutes or so before you leave start getting in mind frame that you are about ready to leave and it's "your life" now.  These people are rude to you, some know it's just your job, but some may have had a bad day also or...just don't care!

Otherwise keep it at work.  It sounds like your good at it, don't let a day or two throw you off.  You need to leave it at work for your health, especially if you are an emotional eater.
