Just got back from the doctors

Well I went in not expecting much from them.  I saw a lot of optifast and other weight loss products on the wall which usually is a turn off for me.  After I started talking too him I realized how much I liked him.  He has a very soothing voice, and actually agrees that maintenance is the hardest part.  He thinks of it as a life style change, and agrees that thier is behavior issues to work out with everyone, and everyone is different.  He acted like "together" we will figure out what plan is best for me.  Not just one diet fits all kind of attitude.  I let him know I want to eat real food, not just shakes and he was fine with that. He actually liked I said it I think.  He also said that I of course have to be ready for changes.  If  it looks like I'm not ready, they will send me away for a few weeks or how ever long it takes for me to realize I need changes and then I can come back.  So otherwords thier not just in it for the buck.

They checked out my insurance to see if I'm covered.  I guess my insurance covers all but 15% until my BMI reaches 39.9.  Which right now I think it's like at 54?? some where around there.  So yay me, I'm covered!!!!!!  I have to weigh in every week, but every two weeks I'll get a one on one coucil with a physician assistant.  Which I sooooo feel like I need.  I'm so excited!  I have my next appointment for a two hour total medical exam on Tuesday, plus figure out what my plan is.

That sounds really positive.  Accountability has really been helping me.  I think I was also ready to change my lifestyle permanently and that is what makes a long term difference.  It's really really frustrating to lose so much weight and gain it back and I think the reason why is that I didn't honestly commit to lifelong changes and didn't deal with the food "issues" (relationship with food).  It sounds like you are in a similar place that I was when I started a few months back.  In a  way, I am slightly envious of your new doctor!  It can be really tough to find doctors who look at overweight/obesity issues with compassion. I really hope you do well with this.  Sometimes we just need an objective person to help us along.

Wow, that sounds like something I could use. I'm so glad your insurance is going to cover it. I think this will be a great step in the right direction. I wish you the best of luck with everything! Keep us posted on what happens and how well this is all working for you. Good Luck!!!!

That does sound positive! That is wonderful! It's so hard to find a Dr you feel comfortable with- one that will work WITH you. I'm happy for ya!

He sounds like a great doctor.  Congratulations on finding him.  WLS is a lot of changing - I'm still making the changes and I'm almost 7 months out.  Only now am I starting to realize things that never hit me before (like how to actually eat, how much should be on my plate, etc).  Best of luck!!
