Need help, any ideas for...

I'm such a taste sampler of everything.  I'm starting to really wonder if that's where my problem is.  Who knows how many extra calories I'm consuming.  Sort of like out of sight out of mind problem with me.  If people don't see me do it, so I must be fine and don't have to count the calories, right!    I taste everything, even little pieces off the kids plates after dinner.  If I'm trying to find something to eat in the fridge, if I see left overs sitting there, I'll lift up the lid and take a little bite or two.  It's sort of like once I start I can't stop.   I need some kind of ideas to break this cycle of mine.

Help!

Not to sound condescending, but… stop it!  That’s all you can do; just knock it off.  If you see something on your kid’s plate that looks tasty, throw it out quick, before you get your hands on it.   Consider left over food as garbage, and only garbage.

I think those calories can add up faster than you think.  I know for me, if I do it one night then it leads to another and then another.  I just had to basically stop it all together.  Try not to overcook too, that way you don't have as many leftovers laying around.  Maybe make the kids clear their plate off into the garbage, which won't leave you the opportunity to nibble.  Brenda

LOL, you just made me laugh.  Ok ok, it's like my hands being caught in the cookie jar.  You and Brenda are both right.  I even thought for a minute.."just stop it!", but then before I knew it I was writing thinking maybe you smart people had some kind of secret kind of trick or something that you wasn't sharing. :)  Just like Brenda, once you start, it's hard to stop.  I might have to change some house cleaning rules around here!

Thanks

at resturants I dribble water all over my plate when I am done...  just enough to make eating more of it really unappetizing.... at home the boys scrape their own plates into the trash and I rarely cook enough for leftovers...
What I've eaten is here for the world to see

LOL, I've sooo got to try this out in a restraunt with my husband.  He hates his food touching each other.  It literally grosses him out.  It's like he's a neat freak when it comes to food, how he cuts his meat into perfectly small bite size pieces, his little mounds of rice or potatoes looks like it's from a tv commercial.  He won't even put his salad on his plate because it's not meant to go there..he has to have it either in a bowl or use a "salad plate".  I have GOT to do this, it might just gross him out enough to make him  stop  eating too much food. ha

It sounds to me like you have an obsession with food.  I'm that way, too.  I go to Overeaters Anonymous so I can be free of the obsession with food.  So I don't think about food and eating, so much.  I suggest you start attending meetings of Overeaters Anonymous, so you can be supported by people who have the same problem you do, and you can hear how you can get out of it. OMG... that is SO ME!  I can control this- but the first few weeks I was doing WW- I caught myself munching as I went! I had to become VERY concious of it to remember NOT to do this. Carry a big bottle of WATER with you and when you get munchies- make some OR "Smart Popcorn" and snack on that. I can eat SIX and 3/4 CUPS of that stuff and it's only TWO (yes! 2!!!!) points :) :)  SMACK them fingers!!

I know that when smokers are trying to quit, sometimes they're told to think of a really gross image whenever they want a puff and eventually, you won't want to smoke anymore.

Maybe this would help with leftovers. When you see the leftovers on your kids plates, imagine the food with bugs in it or something. Then you won't want to eat it.

This is a tricky problem because we need to eat to live. But it's worth a try I guess.
