Not sure what it means yet...

Just go info from my employer.  My medical benefits have changed. WLS will now be covered in 2008. Insurance will pay up to 50% minus my $500 deductible.  I'm extremely ecstatic to have this option!  If you remember, I never had a problem self-paying but rather worried about how I would pay for future complications and whether or not insurance companies would consider everything a pre-existing because of WLS.  This makes all those worries null and void.  However, I still don't know if I'm 100% ready to go through with it. Nonetheless, I am going to start talking to my doctor about it on a more active basis. Now, if I can only get the other DBA to quit taking vacation so I can schedule some appointments! After 2 years of 'thinking', researching and whining about WLS I now have the ability to have it..yet still can't make up my mind! sheesh!  Oh well, this is good news and I'm gonna enjoy it!

At the very least, find a local surgeon you trust and attend their seminar-- and see what sort of feeling t leaves you with-- I find you can better see what it all means to you in those venues-- you'll get a visceral, "This ain't for me" reaction pretty quickly if that's what it comes down to.

I went to a seminar expecting to get a Lap Band, and left feeling that a Lap Band was a very bad idea for me. It changed my life, for sure.

Wow, getting pretty real, eh? I know that feeling.  My insurance would have paid for it, no sweat, i would have had perhaps $1K out of pocket due to double covered insurance.  Like you, the REAL question was...could I really DO IT? It is a BFD, for sure. Luckily for you, at your age, there is no hurry. In my humble and very loving opinion, you have more work to do on your 'thang" with food. From someone who has grown to adore your online persona, I say spend this gap time getting counseling for it - perhaps it is tied to other sources, who knows.   Kriz, you have certainly, though, come a LONG way from that guy who used to eat breakfast at 7-11! LOL. I want you to know I do give you some credit.   On the other hand, too, your weight may be holding you back from appreciating exercising - it's hard to tell not knowing you in 3D.  Only you can lend us an answer on that.  I know you posess the intellect to see what is needed for the long term, with or without WLS. I say, definitley, get more information. I will mail you a book called the real skinny on weight loss, if you pm me! That book really helped me understand what I could have been taking on.

What great news.  At least now your insurance will not only cover it, but complications as well.  As for not making up your mind...take as much time as you need.   When I started going through the process, I took my time and looked at all the options and surgeries out there.  Funny thing was I picked the surgery my insurance originally specifically excluded.  Luckily in me taking my time and really evaluating everything, my insurance changed their policy somewhat and now the surgery I'm going for is now covered. Wishing you the best, Melinda

Kriz, I wish you the best with whatever choice you make.  Don't stay away from the board when your not doing good on your eating and maybe that will help you too.  Besides, I always enjoy reading your posts, your a riot!

I second that, Kriz! I miss you - we all do - you are a valuable contributor!  We all suck at this from time to time. I am trying hard to not focus on what I do wrong, and focus more on how I can change it.  Nowhudimean?
