I picked up the book Fat Girl at the library last week.  what a great book! It's a little one, written by Judith Moore, who is from Berkeley California.  Anyway, here is an excerpt from the intro:  "I know too that when a thin person looks at a fat person, the thin person considers the fat person to be less virtuous than he.  The fat person lacks willpower, pride, this wretched attitude"self esteem" and does not care about friends or family or she would not wander the earth looking like a repulsive sow, rhinoceros, hippo, elephant, general wide mawed, flesh flapping monster." And I say, isn't that IT in a nutshell?  We have discussed before the exact opposite of fat peeps:  usually nobody is more conscientious about health, knows more about it, DOES it, etc.

Soooo true.  in high school, my best friend was thin as a rail, and I was decidedly NOT.  I was always conscious about what I was eating (though I certainly did nothing to stop the food from shoveling in at the time), and she was always just eating whatever she wanted.

the opposite is true now (not of her--she's still thin and has had a baby and is THIN AGAIN!!  ***** lol) in that I am aware and also active about what I eat.  I think, though, that i'm regarded as somewhat of a pain by coworkers..my boss is overweight, and I am constantly talking about calories and fitness, and she clearly is not ready to take the steps to become a healthier person (she has no qualms about admitting this), but at the same time, I feel like if I'm not out there, talking about it, I tend to start to pretend like I don't have an issue and will start to overeat.

I have a question for the mom's on here...do you take your kids to fast food a lot??  My boss does this....she is overweight and she will go to fast food with her son 3 times a week!!!  her kid is only about 3 years old!  and she is a university professor of science...don't you think she should know better??  it sort of drives me crazy when I see it happening...I just think of all the horrible habits she's teaching her kid.

okay well that was way off topic toward the end.  sorry!!

I used to take my son to fast food quite alot.  but not anymore.  He is lucky to go once a month these days :)

He is becoming more and more aware of what he eats as time goes on.  As I talk about the changes I am making he also is making changes.   But yes, as a first grader he was quite happy to eat mcdonalds every day in the car on the way to school.  I realize now it was really abusive for me to allow him a sausage egg mcgriddle, hashbrowns and milk for breakfast 5 days a week.  That is 800 calories, 42g of fat, 16 g saturated fat, 25 mg of cholesterol, 1770 mg sodium.... and of course we often ate out for dinner or on weekends too.... no wonder my kid was rolly polly!

What I've eaten is here for the world to see
336.1 (8-1-07)/319.0 (12-28-07)/200 (goal for 12-31-08)/160 (goal)
Next mini goal is 290 by 1-31-08
