Welcome aboard Kim!  I just started posting here a few days ago, but so far I love it.  I've been on several forums and I think so far this is my favorite.  I'm also at my highest weight ever and have been scared.  The scale is moving slowly the past few weeks I've been trying, but it's moving and that's what counts.  Just like my doctor said one time..even one pound a week makes such a difference!  There is also some very informative people on here that I've noticed.  Every one seems to have experience being heavier and has stuck through with some great results.  So welcome, and don't hesitate to ask anything, as I've pretty much put my soul into a few people on here just within the last few days and have gotten wonderful support.  Congrats on making the first step!

You probably have heard that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step! You just did that first step...reach out and start planning. Read some threads of lately...they are pretty great.  Ask questions...tell us more about how/why you got fat and how you think you can change course in your life!

Welcome aboard Kim.  There are some lightweights, heavy weights, and all weights in between on this board.  Me, I'm one of the heavyweights.  I started at 376, so only a couple less than you.  I was probably up to or even over the 376, but don't quite know.  Since mid-May I've lost a little over 40 lbs and I can tell a big difference.  I have quite a ways to go, but even getting that off has really made some stuff easier.   As Neecee said, read through some of the threads on this forum.  It will really help give you some great ideas.  Tell us how you got to be your weight, what you've tried before, and what you are trying right now to get healthier.  Again, as Neecee said, it really takes one step, one change, to make a difference.

Hi Kim and welcome. I am 39 and currently weigh 301.8  I started at 336.1 on August first.  I have had some success and I will share with you what has worked for me. Step 1 - begin logging your food.  I use www.thedailyplate.com.  Put every bite you take into that food log - good, bad or ugly.  Learn to measure ALL your food so that you can really get a handle on what you are eating.  Once you know what you are eating you can begin to make adjustments one meal at a time, chosing better options to help lose weight.  If you would like to see what I have eaten over the last 3 months just click the link in my signature. Step 2 - water water water.  64 oz per day every day.   Step 3 - if you have screwed up your metabolism with dieting in the past you may need to do some retraining.  This means eating lots of small meals.  I eat every 2 hours all day long.  This means 7 or 8 meals a day for me - each meal consisting of 200 calories on average. Step 4 - keep going.  One foot in front of the other.  Keep posting here on good days and bad.

You can do this.

What I've eaten is here for the world to see
336.1 (8-1-07)/319.0 (12-28-07)/200 (goal for 12-31-08)/160 (goal)
Next mini goal is 290 by 1-31-08

Hi Kim!  Welcome to the group! I've only been here a couple of months but have found wonderful support in these people here!  Just keep coming back and read all you can! Check out the profiles- all the success stories.... there are struggles, but there are so many success stories!!    These folks have helped me through some frustrating times... and they have cheered me on when I needed that to! I think the main thing Kim, is to figure out what weight loss plan would work best for YOU.  Read about all the different plans (or make one up yourself?) Plan your meals/intake, your daily water (64 ounces is a must!) Your exercise (even if it isn't much)  Make your decision on HOW you will do this and then choose a day you WILL start.  Then come here DAILY and reach out. The support is endless!   Personally, I have found that the Weigh****chers flex plan (I only do online- NO meetings/NO  embarrassing weigh ins)  works best for ME.  I LOVE it! (I'm just sorry I never knew about WW before!) My 6 y/o daughter is truly what got me inspired to loose this weight. I am determined to BE HERE to see her happily grown up :) :)   I started on August 20 and have lost 18 pounds. A little slow, but that is almost 20pounds less than I was 2 months ago :) :) You CAN do this Kim.... you just need to learn how your going to do it, and to feel the support you need to help you as you go.

I'd suggest you try going to meetings of Overeaters Anonymous.  They don't assign you a specific food plan.  You can ask your family physician for that, or go to Weigh****chers, or whatever.  But the group support for food addicts, bulimics, anorexics, and compulsive overeaters is essential to your success.  I was just going to Weigh****chers alone, and I kept going up and down over the same pounds, not getting anywhere.  That was because I couldn't stop cheating on the diet.  But after I started attending Overeaters Anonymous, I started being able to let go of the cheating behaviors, and to start losing weight more consistently.  I thought about weight loss surgery, too, and was too scared to go through with it.  But with the help of my sponsor, of OA, and my Higher Power, I am succeeding, one day at a time.  I call this success "abstinence", hence my  sharing my food with the rest of ObesityHelp.com.  It keeps me accountable.
