does anyone know about this diet or have any experience with it? i went to see my pcp today and found out that they do this plan in her office. she said once i got my lab work done i could start this plan if i wanted. i was given the book to bring home and look over - which i've done briefly. my reaction to what i've read so far is there is no way i want to try this diet. first of all, i'm not sure i buy into the whole "detox" thing. second of all, this plan just looks way too HARD to maintain. i find that if it's way out of my realm of normal and too hard to maintain that i will eventually steer off the path and start regaining. i don't want to make that mistake again. i've been doing good so far on my own and doing it comfortably. i'm afraid i'll mess that up.

I dont think there is any mystery to what I think about doing the next plan...  LOL If you are eating a healthy balance, losing 2 lbs a week and are happy and satisfied why on earth would you want to go on a vegetable juice and tofu diet??  LOL

Editorial Reviews Amazon.com The keys to overweight are liver toxicity, waterlogged tissues, fear of eating fat, excess insulin, and stress, asserts nutritionist Ann Louise Gittleman. Her Fat Flush Plan addresses these problems with a targeted diet.

The Fat Flush Plan, filled with nutritional analysis and detailed explanations, is not a quick read. Despite Gittleman's assertion that the plan is "as easy as 1-2-3," it is quite regimented. No white flour, white sugar, margarine, vegetable shortening, artificial sweeteners, or caffeine. The diet emphasizes essential oils (e.g., flaxseed and GLA), protein (eight ounces or more, plus two eggs a day), vegetables, thermogenic spices (e.g., ginger and cayenne), water, and diuretic beverages (eight glasses/day of diluted, unsweetened cranberry juice). In its first two-week phase, the plan is a rigid, low calorie (1,100-1,200 calories/day), low-carb (no grains or starchy vegetables) diet. Phase two lets you increase your calories to 1,500 and add two "friendly carbs." Phase three, the "lifestyle program," moderately adds more dairy, carbs, and calories. Gittleman promotes walking and recommends strength training in phase three. Funny thing is - I am down to 1 cup of coffee a day, I eat very little white flour, sugar, margerine, swetners etc. I take fish oil, cinnamon and cayanne daily....  I drink lots of water and I eat around 1500 cals per day...  I'm almost on her plan LOL

No white flour, white sugar, margarine, vegetable shortening, artificial sweeteners, or caffeine. Yah, i gave up most all that stuff except for occasional cases where it's very hard to avoid it. i gave up caffeine (in sodas) months before i even started watching my diet because i get heart palpitations from it. now i only occasionaly have a cup of coffee if i'm cold. used to be hot chocolate, had to give that up . now, i do love my artificial sweetners tho. that is one major part of the plan that made me go ummmmm NO. i am one of those ppl that have problems drinking just plain water. i have found that i love Minute Maid's Light Lemonade and Aquafina's Flavor Splash waters. both have artificial sweetners. i also put equal (or whatever sweetner we have on hand) in my coffee. i cannot stand black coffee. never was much of a coffee drinker anyway. had to adapt to it to replace my hot chocolate.

Do you know if you have Mitral valve prolapse?  I have it and found out b/c of heart palpitations from my love of caffeine free Diet Coke.  I drank it a lot when I was working in the advertising industry-it kept me awake so I could work all those long nights!

Do you know if you have Mitral valve prolapse? i have no idea what that is or if i have it! i told doctors in the past about the heart palpitations and they (at least 2-3 diff drs) told me it was normal and to just cut back on the caffeine/sugar. but, when i went to my consultation with my surgeon and told him that i had that and that drs told me it was normal he made a face and acting alot like it was NOT normal. so, that's got me a bit worried. i meant to ask my pcp about it tues when i had an apt with her but i forgot because we got so caught up in talking about dieting stuff. i'm going back to see her after my labs are done and am going to make sure i ask her about it then. i've been so lucky so far to have no had any of the many co-morbities ppl of my size have. i do not have diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol....none of those. the only problem i've had is my knees are completely shot and these heart palpitations (which i was told was NOT a problem). now i'm completely worried that there is some kind of damage to my heart. i looked it up....i do have some of the symptoms listed on the site i read. unexplained dizziness sometimes, fatigue and irregular heartbeat. it does seem that it's not a major problem tho. i will definately be asking the dr when i see her next!

This plan does sound like it might help if in a controlled setting - like a fat camp or something. Real life - unless you're a hermit, i'm not sure too many people would stick to it.  In concept, as a temporary re-set thing, i would be okay with it. Lots of this ongoing struggle for many folks is that they are deeply convinced they will never prefer whole grains or non fat versions of dairy or tofu anything. And, after a lifetime of eating lard-laden white flour items, it is a rather dramatic switch.  Maybe a mini-version, like 3 days per phase or something? Again, its effects will not be long-term, but it may help you re-set your tatse buds.

I have a difficult time with just drinking and not eating.  I might be getting the calories I need but I'm sure as not too happy about it. I gave up white stuff when I decided to lose weight.  I occasionally have a baked potato.  I usually do the sweet potato thing though.  I eat whole grains and have pasta but only the whole grain kind and brown rice. I think if you are losing now and you are happy with your losses just stay on the plan you are on.  If your blood work is good, you must be doing something right to be able to maintain your health. I know someone that is doing one of those "detox" plans now and all she can have for 10 days is water with lemon, cayenne, and maple syrup.  Then she can add some fruit and salad.  Sounds hokey to me, but it's her health.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Hey girl, If you're doing well on your own, why bother trying something else? If you've found your nitch already, stay where you are.  You'll do fine if you stay on the path you're on.  Good luck!
