I 'hear' you.  It's all starvation no matter what path you choose... and it's that way for the rest of your life to keep the weight off.  Yes, you'll have to follow whatever starvation path you chose for the rest of your life in order to maintain. I think what you're crying out for is a little fairness and finality.  You want to be able to do a 'diet', lose the weight and the bang-bam, it's over.  You can be like all the other skinny ppl who eat whatever they want and never have to think about counting anything.  What's missing is years and years of research into why we are the way we are and what can be done to ultimately fix our bodies or our brains.  If you can hold out for another 100 - 200 years I think science will have found a way to fix this and everyone will be healthy. Until then...... smoke crack..? Wait...no..that's not right.....ohhh yes.. it's eat salad! What you said wasn't controversial at all by the way...

Do you really feel like it is all starvation Chris?   I dont.  I eat significantly more (in volume) than I did when not eating right.  There is some mourning over things I want to eat but know I cant at that moment, but I really dont have a mental or physical sense of starving.   If I think back I can remember having an emotional starvation response on some diets...  Atkins for instance - I couldnt wait to reach my goal so that I could eat sweets again.....  well if I stuck it out the diet worked for sure - but I clearly wasnt at peace with food. I can also remember starving myself on VLCDs and being physically hungry at times - but I was never able to stick to those for more than a few days....  eventually I had to eat.

Yes, it's starvation. To starve is to simply feel a strong need or desire for something. You may not physically be dieing from not eating enough but you sure feel like it. Eventually, your body will cope and you'll get over the seemingly physical pains of eating so much less but still, the hunger is there in your head. You're starving your head so to speak..  emotional starvation perhaps. Either way, the weight loss is from eating less. With all of the items Christa listed, I agree each of them are a form of starvation, especially anorexia and WLS. To lose weight, you must deprive your body of food or burn more than you consume. sounds like starvation to me :) There is no way that I eat more while eating healthy than I did when not eating healthy.  A healthy breakfast for me is a single serving of oatmeal. Lunch is a sandwich with fresh veggies, whole grains and fruit.  Dinner is 3 course with handful sized portions of each item.  Compared to unhealthy at 2 sausage mcgriddles with 2 hash browns and a large diet coke for breakfast, bojangles all you can eat 4-5 piece fried chicken with 3 sides a biscuit and a cin-a-biscuit. Dinner would be the same 3 course with the 10" plate full and going back for seconds and then scraping the pots as I'm putting away my dirty dishes.  Not to mention coming back to the kitchen  before bed for a sweet snack.

Yea that's what I mean....when I am not for say "dieting" Lunch will be some large value meal from Mcdonalds or someplace...then dinner would be lots of helpings of something or fast food again but more than just a large value meal....and then a snack before bed. Just tons of food. But when I am trying to be healthy....it's almost like eating nothing compared to what it was. A lean cuisine for lunch or half a sandwich, a fruit or yogurt for a snack later in the day and for dinner...well at this time being cereal lol but some chicken an veggies.

Maybe it is because I eat every 2 hours, whether hungry or not... but I very rarely feel actual hunger.  I know from my past experience that hunger is a binge trigger for me... so to eat something relatively high in protien every 2 hours keeps me safe. I could not lose weight if I were feeling real physical hunger.  I'd fail in a nanosecond.  That is why it is so critical for me to eat all the time. I have very little longing for foods I shouldnt have.  It hits me and then is gone pretty quick... Would it be possible for you to "bulk up" your meals more by adding more veg?  A single serving of oatmeal would leave me hungry - the carbs would spike my blood sugar and make me want more.  Have you tried higher protein options?  Yogurt or a soft boiled egg maybe?

Yuck!! Yogurt ...soft boiled egg..breakfast???   How about scrambled eggs, bacon, country taters and a buttermilk biscuit?  now that's some bulk!     Actually the oatmeal will usually satisfy me since I'm not all that hungry in the morning anyway.  It's pretty lo cal. I don'****ch my sugar or anything else besides calories so it works.  My problem is when I get to lunch and dinner.. thats where all my cravings go wild.. I hate eating lunch by myself, it's just plain boring. I like to enjoy the company of others so my co-workers and I go out to lunch and its never healthy.  All of them of course are skinny and they aren't phased by the 1200 -1500 calorie lunches they eat.  Naturally I try to do the same thing.  Ahh well.. I'm at a point where I'm frustrated with trying to eat properly and I'm not doing well with it at all.  I keep going through these phases and honestly haven't contributed more than a week at a time to healthy eating since April..hence my whopping 10 lbs loss since then.  Lately I've been increasing my intake..binging and such... the weight is coming back. I'm back to 291lbs.  On another note, a friend called me last night. He's started going to a gym and is begging me to come with him to help motivate him and he'd do the same for me.  I'm gonna stop by and visit the facility after work. It's out of my way and I don't like being obligated to anything, much less exercise but we'll see how it goes.  Great thing is if I decide to do it, it's only 20 bucks a month.  I may try a different approach to things:  "Stop worrying about what I eat and limiting myself and just focus on being active and exercising. As I improve in that area, perhaps I will improve in what foods and the quantity thereof  I consume." Seems like I've been down that road before... oh well.. It's a roller coaster right? gonna be that way forever..just gotta accept it.

sorry... didnt mean to make you ill... LOL

how about scrambled eggs, ham and crispy sweet potatoes?  I eat that for dinner sometimes and it would make a good breakfast I am sure.

I have come to accept the fact that I cannot eat like others do.  When we have a breakfast meeting I either have to order poached egg, dry toast and fruit or just have coffee.  I cannot eat like other people do...  or I will die.
