I am new to this board. I started out going to have surgery and for some reason it just didnt happen for me. I really want to lose the weight I just dont think surgery is for me. I would love to try to do it on my own I just have so much trouble getting started but once I do I am great for abt a month and then a whole new girl comes out and stuffs her face worse than before. I was just wondering if there is anyone here has any idea of how to help me control myself better with food. How to get started. Would love a pal to do it with me. Be able to talk to daily or every few days abt how well or how bad I have done. I am at the point to where I dont even know how to start. Can anyone give me some advice or just give me pep talk.

                          Thanks PlumCrazyGirl

all of us can do that...be your pal...give advice...peptalks, etc. First of all, tell us about your known barriers to success, like dh who loves junk food in the house, is fast food stops your thing, is it sneak eating? I know for me, planning what I will eat each day helps me tremendously. Before i leave for work each day, i have what I will eat with me or waiting for me at home. I think about balance in each day for these things and how i can best get there whole grains, espcially high fiber foods leafy greens any other vegetables fresh fruit (or frozen) low sugar drinks,  water all day most of the day protein, in my case, proetin drinks with almost no sugar or carbs in them whiel at work home meals:  lean hamburger, chicken, turkey, lowfat sausages, pork, beef. I exercise at least 5 days a week, for me, walking at least one hour.  I try to do floor exercises once in a while, ride my bike, hike, swim.

Pep talk... here's my advice/ pep talk for you!

Weight loss is a formula.  Input (eating) needs to be less than Output (calories burnt).  Nutrition is a healthy balanced 'input'.

When I very first started I went on a preprepared diet meal plan for about 10 weeks.  It cost me an absolute fortune.  But it worked to kickstart me for two reasons.

1) The whole process of working out and planning a diet was always too much for me to take on all at once- I would fail each time. But this way I could totally forget the food 'input' part of the losing weight equation because someone else had worked that out for me. Which meant I only had to think about working out, and I could get myself into an exercise rhythm and habit.  I started short and sweet- 15 minute walks each day then slowly built it up to a hour a day.

2) I was able to teach myself about portion size and healthy nutritious foods using that preprepared meal plan.  Then once I had my workouts sorted I adapted the meals I had been eating to make my own menu.

The company I used is Australian- but they have a free DIY menu which you can download as a guide (where is says their dinner you could replace it with a store bought low calorie frozen dinner at first). Here's the DIY menu link:

I am now... gosh 3 1/2 years from when I first started, and have reached and maintained my goal weight for a year now. Anyway, read my profile for some more ideas, and PM me if you want to chat.

Welcome to our fun little community PCG, We're all here to help support and give advice.  As Neecee asked, what are the roadblocks you've faced?  When you get one month our from your new eating plan, WHY do you fall off the wagon?  We all have struggles we go through and I have found that when I restrict myself and view what I'm doing as a diet I fail.  Would love to hear more about what struggles you have gone through with eating and what diet's you've tried so we can give you suggestions on what to try next. Again welcome.

Keep coming here! You'll find ALL of that :) :)  There are some really great people here!  I was in your spot about a month ago. It took me ahile to even figure out what to do... where to start... your post is so familiar!   I finally decided on the WW flex program (on line) and it is a GREAT program for ME. It is just what I needed! My first month was up a week ago today and I lost a total of 14 pounds in that time!  It's working... and I NEVER thought it would. You can do it... we're all here for you. We'll walk the road with you!

I suggest you go to Overeaters Anonymous.  That has been the only way I can control myself with food, because I am a recovering food addict (or compulsive overeater).  With the support of the OA group, and the help of a Higher Power, your eating will be back under control, and you'll grow as a person too.  OA is a Twelve-Step Program, which means it is based on Alcoholics Anonymous twelve steps (it's a spiritual way to control your eating).  I used to be able to stick to a diet to the end, but I've "dieted" so many times that I finally burned out on it, and couldn't do it any more.
