NEW EXERCISE CHALLENGE!

I think Tali had a great idea-- we need an exercise challenge to keep us moving! I figure a  weekly goal that's based on time is probably easiest-- then we can check in every couple of days and report how we're doing! We'll start Monday of next week. Take a few days to think about what your fitness goals for next week will be, and I will post again when it's closer to time! Example: My fitness goal (this week and next) is an average of 30 minutes a day of water aerobics, or swimming, aqua jogging, walking, or free weights. I need to start slow so I don't blow my belly open again. That's 3 hours, 30 minutes for the week. (I'll increase from there, as the doc allows.) Give it some thought, peeples!

Hmm I am up for it....but lately I have been going to the gym anywhere from 1-2 hours a day. I would like to have a goal of getting up every morning to take a 15-30 minute walk. But my lazy ass wont get up! So I work out probably 5-6 days a week. yea I know i am not losing squat because I keep filling my face! But that equals to......without the morning walk. anywhere from 5-7 hours a week. Blah wtf! Stop feeding your face CHRISTA! Geez!

This will be good for me.  I haven't done anything in weeks.  My excuse is that I've been so busy.  Yes, I have been very busy but that doesn't let me off the hook.  I know I need to exercise AND eat right on a regular basis, not just when it's convenient.  Okay, I'm going to pysch myself up for the rest of the week.  On Monday I'll start, real small at first, maybe just 15 mins, 6 days per week on my recumbent bike.  After a couple of weeks of that I'll slooooowwwly start incorporating a little strength training back into my routine.  This is nowhere near the amount of exercise I should be doing, but I'm not doing anything right now so anything at all is more than what I've been doing.  Slow but steady wins the race....

I'll do it too.  I'll commit to 4 days of 30 minute walking.  Seems like nothing but it's so much more than I'm doing now.

Hey Shari, I have been doing my 4-5 days a week, but today a friend gave me a book by a doctor who states that weight training beats cardio hands down.  Now I don't completely buy that, I know that there are great benefits to cardio, but I'm going to try his method of weight training to see if i can move things around a little bit.

He also coupled it with an eating plan that is generally high protein and low carb/low fat, the way I have been doing things.  But his pproach is a little different and I figure to shake things up a bit I'm going to follow what he does.  So a bit of a different approach for me. So I guess my challenge will be to put this new stuff into play, how's that? On the negative side I am going for two MRI's, one today and one tomorrow, both knees.  Doc said I have the knees of a 70 year old. ~sighs~  But I keep on strength training because to me it is important to keep the muscles strong to

That's awful! Wonder if surgery or knee replacement will help you?  We all need both...resistance and aerobics. Good to shake it up!  I try to tell people that yes, yes, aerobics are the shizz when it comes to caloric burn, but the danger is...you WILL hurt yourself and perhaps irreversibly if you pu**** too hard doing high level aerobics alla time. Every single one of my old running buddies can hardly walk now...knees blown, hips, feet. These are thin folks who pushed it waaaay too hard for too  long.

I had knee surgery in March of 2005 and April of 2005, both knees, one at a time of course.  That is what prompted me to lose the weight, the inability to walk!!!  However, whether I did too much damage or whether I was too heavy when I had the surgeries, I don't know.  But I never got better.  I live with a level 3 pain, on bad days it's at least a 7.  Some days I wonder if it was worth having the surgery.  It's all a crap shoot. At this point he said I am far too young for knee replacement.  The MRI's are going to tell us where to go I guess.  I was thinking we would do the same surgeries we did in 2005 now that I am at a more acceptable weight.  Perhaps I'll heal better this time?  Who knows.

My sister had knee surgery and she can't walk up the steps worth a crap.  I think knee surgery is like back surgery, your just not sure how much it's going to help.  A woman I know has had 3 or 4 and she's still having problems.  My knees aren't the best either.  Good luck to you. Brenda

yes, i keep giving it lip service that i need to get back into my crunches and push ups, but no go. I hereby declare that I will 3x a week work back up to my 200 ball crunches and 2 set sof 12 push ups, girlie style. I will do Thursday of this week, then beginning Monday, do M, W, F.  I am an animal on doing my walks.  I have been making sure to do one hour, no more 55 minutes, 45 minutes, i am doing my full hour.
