Curious.....

So yesterdaywas a really bad day for me. I binged like no other. I am not even going to say what I ate for the whole day. But anyways I still went to the gym for 2 hours and worked my ass off. I was all content when I left about the binging because I knew I had burned something off and felt better. I was watching the Biggest Loser while I was there that is why I was there for 2 hours lol. But when I got home I binged some more! WTF? See I know everything is mind over matter but guess what matter wins EVERY time! lol. But this is not the point of my post. My question is. Anytime I eat something before I go to bed the next day...like right now it is 10:50am....I feel like I haven't ate in days I am SO hungry. Happens everytime if I eat before I go to bed...which I do not do often....only on my bad days of binge. So why am I SO hungry when yesterday I ate enough for 2 people? Any opinions, answers? :)

Your stomach stretches. If you pu**** to its limit, then empty it, it seems like it sorta creates a "vacuum", doesn't it? You also physically seek to maintain homeostasis.... like your blood sugar crashes and you bottom out,  so you're suddenly craving sugar/carbs to replace the loss/expenditure. This is part of why they don't advise eating a lot late at night.

Christa, Your not alone! if i eat before going to bed i get up hungry, and if i dont eat before bed seems like i can go all day and not be hungry, have done this type of thing myself for a long time, But iam getting so now i wont eat after 7pm and it does work , i know its hard  but, its out of habit growing up for me, Maybe, try and keep busy when you feel the urge to eat late, It may be out of habit  for you to, I dont know why this is but i will bet there are many  of us that do the same. Sorry iam not much help but it does help to know others out there are going through the same thing. Delilah

I am going to take a more darwinish approach... we are built to get while the gettin's good so to speak.  When we binge our bodies say "Stock up beofre it's gone!!!" I have been doing research on this eating every few hours thing, and one of the things it does is it keeps my body from believing it NEEDS a binge because by eating every 2 hours I am telling my body not to worry, there is plenty of food now, and there will be plenty in another 2 hours... As for the binge - get the bad stuff out of the house (or if you live with others have them put it where you cant get it) Your binge would have ended when you got home if there hadn't been anything to eat! Our house is now so void of food my binges seem rather silly these days...  I was in a real food frenzy and all I could find to make was zuchinni with parmesean cheese and eggs... that was the WORST damage I could find to do!  LOL  (It was very tasty though, and it satisfied the need)

Girl I have no idea.  That might just be a You thing.  Maybe because eating spikes your metabolism into gear so if it's kicking in before bedtime, it might still be working in the morning?  I don't know.  I'm binging with you today.  I had two croissant sandwiches from burger king this morning (no hashbrowns) and I looked up online and that was about 900 calories.  Just for breakfast!!!  So for lunch I thought "Okay, I'm going to eat turkey and crackers and watch myself for the rest of the day" but what do I do?  Order chinese food with the rest of the girls in my office.  WTF?  I guess we're all allowed to have bad days.  At least you went to the gym.  My fat ass will be sitting in my bed watching the game tonight.

I'm not sure about the late night thing.  Sometimes if it's my time to eat and I'm really not all that hungry and I eat just a little, I will actually be hungrier after that than I was before I ate.  Somedays I'm just plain hungrier than others too.  Weird!   Brenda

I tend to go with the darwinian thang...i know that for me, when i eat a lot, i continue to want to eat a lot, like I tripped an inner switch. Waking up hungry means the switch is not off yet.  For me, the morning after a binge like that tends to be groggy, not hungry...at all. It is your TOM, isn't it?  Last time you did this, tom was why??? Am I right??? The MAIN reason I binge (or used to, cannot call it exactly a binge anymore, comparative to what I USTA do), is stress management. Food in Mass Quantity somehow dulls your response to whatever is happening. Maybe you are having a rebound from your decision or did you...to cancel your date.  That situation seemed to stir up lots of inner conflict...poor self image,  not wanting to hurt others, guilt, etc.  You need to think of then DO an alternate behavior when you feel down and *that* hungry. Maybe when it's your TOM or when you do feel down or conflicted, understand that THAT time of your life, YOU eat more food.  Stuff down fresh fruit and veggies first, then eat whatever you want - or can - eat after that.  I taught myself to go to the movies - NO CANDY allowed. Or a coffee shop alone and take a book, drink coffee or tea and just be there among other people.
