Breakfast 1 banana 1 cup raisin bran 1 cup 1% milk 2 cups coffee 2 cups water *Had an "abstinence slip" by eating little pieces of hamburger cooked and cold, sitting in grease, in an open cooking container at my client's house.  I asked God for forgiveness, and I forgave myself.  I won't ever do that again! Lunch 2 medium sesame pita breads with spinach, 3 slices tomato, 6 slices turkey lunch meat, 1 slice American cheese, 1 tsp. mayo 9 prunes 2 cups water Dinner Last chicken thigh with white sauce 1 cup mashed potatoes with margarine 1 can vegetable soup 17 grapes 1-1/2 cups 1% milk Denise Phares/Kitties4

Have you asked yourself what caused you to eat the burger meat??? Was it offered to you and you felt it would be impolite to say no?

Did your client leave the room and you just couldnt resist 'trying' a bite? I am trying to get my head around this...  I cant imagine your client saying "oh by the way, there is some hamburger there on the counter if you want a snack"

and I cant imagine eating some mystery meat sitting open on the counter  - but then I am VERY fussy about food and covering and refrigeration etc.... Anyway, do you know what emotion or temptation *got* you so you can avoid it next time?

I do this at home - after I make a steak, or fish, or whatever on the griddle on in a frying pan, I lick the leftover grease and crispies because it tastes so good.  I guess I better stop doing that at home, so I'm not tempted to do it again at work.  Good question! Denise Phares/Kitties4

oh heck yeah that tastes good - add a litte wine or broth and you have a fancy sauce!  LOL but the grease is very bad...   I solved this problem at home..... when I remove the meat from the pan I pour in salt.  Yep I keep a big jug of mortons cheapest on the stove... about a 1/4 cup of salt in the pan will keep you out of it!  LOL

But RNY may not be able to stop those sorts of behaviors.  Some people don't have dumping issues... and once the first year has passed  - well then it is a matter of changed habits.... I guess that is why I am changing my eating habits now before I decide to have surgery...  I know it will be up to me to maintain anyway.

I'm 9 weeks post-op today and can say that RNY won't fix this sort of stuff.  Those strange impulses don't go away just because you have surgery.  Many people go through therapy and join support groups to work through the mental battle that still exists with food after RNY.  I'm actually a little shocked by how much I've had to battle my mind since surgery.  I didn't think I was compulsive before the surgery, but i definitely have some tendancies.  I had the surgery to help me control portions, but the rest is all on you.  There's no guarantee that certain foods will make you sick. My point is that if you have any of these urges or something that you feel like isn't a normal food behavior please get help.  It doesn't make you a bad candidate for RNY, but getting help can make you a great success with your RNY.

RNY would not stop this in any way-- B's right. I have no trouble eating ground beef-- in fact it's a favorite.

Don't presume the surgery will do anything for you besides making your stomach smaller. That's all you're going to get-- and even that's only of limited use-- I never eat to capacity anyway (I measure everything!)
