Husband is not being very supportive!

I am finally getting really motivated to try another Dr and pursue Gastric again. I bought a Pair of Gap Leather Pants Size 6 from Goodwill. I have always wanted leather pants my entire life. And the "normal" size- not settling for plus size. I wanted these to serve as my "goal" pants. I hold them up against myself to show my husband and he says "you'll never fit into those. your hips are too big. you will never get that small". now I have been supportive of anything he has ever wanted to do our whole marriage. I would like the same in return. Is he right? can someone with large hips that weighs 350 get into a size 6 pants. The women in my family do have big hip bones but not abnormally big. I dont know. I just know I'm dissapointed. :( Kat

Look, anything's possible, but it's probably not too likely. For starters, you're gonna have a lot of loose skin that you'll need to accomodate or have removed. Also, if you've been obese for any amount of time, you actually develop thicker bones which may add to your overall bulk. And lastly, super-morbidly obese people just plain don't bounce back all the way as a general rule.

But most importantly: health is not a size. It's not about a pair of pants, or an image-- it's a feeling of well-being that comes from being able to move and live freely and without illness or pain. Maybe he isn't being unsupportive, so much as wanting you to set realistic goals as not to be disappointed. If that's the case, it sounds like you might have a winner there, even it if doesn't make you feel all warm inside.

My personal best was 127 pounds  in my teens. I dont know about the Big boned thing but measuring my wrist- I have medium to small bones. I have been obese for about 8 years. I played sports all my life, before becoming obese, and was pretty fit.   I am prepared to get all the plastics I need to get.  I dont know- I have seen some pictures on here of people that have made dramatic changes.

Your wrists aren't weight-bearing, and plastics ain't free.

Free your mind. Your ass will follow.

Okeydoke. I never said plastics were free. And my husband's income affords us the ability to pay for them. Any other negative words you would like to say to me?

If you believe that my thinking your health is more important than your pants size is negative, you have far bigger things than me to worry about. I'm coming from a place where several co-morbidities were killing me, so I can be a little moo-pants insensitive sometimes.

plastics are meant really for contouring only. they are not going to really change your size much if you truly are only getting rid of extra skin. and of course they definitely won't change your bone structure. now if you go to the self-proclaimed "biggest fatsucker in texas" who will lipo out 30 lbs, that would make more of a difference in what jean size you wear....

I'd have to see you in 3D...so hard telling! leather pants don't have a lot of give, so there's that too. The smallest I ever ever was, like for one day, was a size 7.  As a teen, most of the time, it was 9's or 11's.  I was 5' and 51/2 " (i have now shrunk almost one full inch, btw!) and weighed like 140 ish. I have an apple shape when i get fat, so legs and hips tend to be slim, shoulders, belly and arms get fat first I would say I have medium to large bones, built kind of squatty and strong looking - peasant stock for real. My ring size has always been an 8. Shoes, 81/2 to a 9.  I have to get 10" ankle bracelets and larger sized bracelets.  Husbands need to keep their practical mouths shut sometimes!  LOL.  My normally supportive DH told me last spring that no way would i finish my 60 miles bike ride, now that I was 50! The last time I had completed one i was 38 or so.  So, he did have me going there for a while with self-doubt, but I GOT HIM.  When the chips were down during my ride, i thought of his dumass coment and would have dragged myself bloodied and stumps for feet before i got a sag with my bike!!!!

As far as the "big boned" thing goes.... I've never seen a chubby skeleton!

Seriously tho... don't set yourself up to fail. The pants are a great goal... but set smaller goals on the way. Reward yourself as you go. Your husband will be pleasantly suprised when you prove him wrong.. and if he's not.. you'll be hot enough to get a new one!! Ha ha ha.
