Putting oneself first - because I'm worth it

We (women) often believe that if we put everyone else first that somehow, someway, they will put us first when we need it.  Most of the time we do not realize that this is a flawed assumption until it is (almost) too late. When we put all other's ahead of ourselves we do not teach them to appreciate the value of what we do for them...  we teach them that they are somehow more worthy, more deserving than we are.  Can we really blame them then, when our needs are not met? By learning to be a bit more 'self caring' we teach those around us that we have needs and we are worthy of having them met. Today I challenge you to put yourself first.  Buy a bottle of really nice lotion and spend an hour, alone in your room getting soft and smelly :).... Go buy some new makeup and have your hair done... buy a pair of pants that are NOT elastic, even though you know you wont be in them long. Do something good for yourself and tell your family what you have done and why you did it. As for me?  When I lose 20 lbs I am going to go and buy myself some mineral bronzer so I don't look too pale as summer fades into fall.  It will cost a pretty penny (about $40), and my husband will probably object as the budget is tight.... but I am going to tell him that I am proud of myself for losing  18.8 lbs to date and that I deserve a reward when I get to 20 in a few days. What are you going to do for you?

Look, you tool-- men don't have to put themselves first. They have to put ME first. So cough up that donation, before I hurt you in a bad way.

It's a great sentiment.. and very true.  What I have done is start putting me first in everyday life... afterall... we're all adults here! I've been making my own food, washing my own clothes, working out when I want to, and taking all the time I want in the bathroom afterwards.. running that ho****er down baby!  LOL  Cause, after I spend 20 minutes in the shower, I need another 20 at the sink, cleansing, exfoliating.. the whole routine... oh yes.. and that IS my very favorite expensive perfume they smell.. afterall.. I don't ever go out, I might as well be enjoying it before it turns to vinegar or something (is that what happens to perfume when it gets old)?  LOL As of this morning.. down 11 lbs.  I think this formula works.

Clearly some folks think this is a silly thread.... but I am glad to see you got the point.  I am also glad that you are taking time to be good to you....   and 11 pounds is nothing to sneeze at!  good job!

Well, I have to admit.. the mental image of a grown man locking himself in his room to lather himself with perfumed lotion kinda tickled me too!  Maybe they should be afforded the luxury of getting something waxed? What is it that men DO do to make themselves pretty anyway?  My husband makes a necessary trip to the barber once a month and spends a nominal amount of time trimming his moustache...  just has to run his fingers through his hair after washing it in the shower, polishes his shoes.. puts on his shirt and tie (sometimes even pants).  OK.. that just plain ****** me off!  He takes a whole 10 minutes to look THAT GOOD!  THAT'S SO UNFAIR!   Ok.. he's gotta lose 10 lbs or so.. and he is struggling.. I look at him and I try not to minimize his struggle.. but I gotta laugh sometimes.. especially when he looks in the mirror and says "and I still look THAT GOOD".. lol   Maybe his weight loss present will be a new jump drive or whatever it is he does with his computers.

my post was aimed at us ladies...  (sorry bert) that is why the first words were "we (women)" Men (generally) do not give without remembering to take.  Women (generally) do. My post wasnt intended to be about rewarding oneself for weightloss... it was about doing something nice for me instead of putting everyone else first. I hear, often, of women who wonder why their husbands, kids, friends, co-workers seem to be taking advantage of them.  Some just describe it as a matter of fact, as if it is how it should be.  Women who would gladly spend $50 on a daughter's haircut and then go to supercuts for their own.  Women who shop at trendy stores for their kids and husbands and purchase sweats at walmart for themselves...  Women who continue to coddle and care for people long after the need has passed.

does that make sense?
