Is it just me??

I subscribed to OH magazine when I first stared using this site.  This a copy of an email I sent to them.  Is it just me?  Was it just the last 2 issues were exclusively geared towards WLS?   I joined the OH site 2/07.  I didn't actively participate on it till 5/07, when I was considering WLS.  I subscribed to OH magazine because I wanted to have all the resources and support I could get my hands on. I have found the website informative and supportive, and I was looking forward to receiving my first issue of OH Magazine.    I was disappointed to discover that WLS was not included in my husband's health insurance.  I was also disappointed when I got my 1st issue of OH Magazine.  I poured over the whole thing looking for something "non-surgical" related.  There was nothing.  I just received my 2nd issue, nothing again.   Your website is called "Obesity Help - gastric bypass, lap-band, duodenal switch, and other surgical, and NONSURGICAL weight loss options"  One would assume that a magazine would deal with weight loss in general.  Maybe the magazine should be called "WLS Magazine"   Please let me know if you plan to include any non-surgical articles in your magazine in the future.  If not, I will most likely cancel my subscription.   Sincerely,   Jean Carlson

Jean, I never subscribed to the magazine because I already knew this website was devoted to people who had WLS.  Back at the end of 2005 there was no non-op forum at all.  We were instrumental in getting them to realize we were even out here.  You obviously missed all the bru-ha-ha where we were told that WW and Jenny Craig and NutriSystem were out there if we wanted support and that there were tons of sites devoted to weight loss the "traditional way."  At some points we were even discouraged from posting on the WLS boards because we couldn't know what they were going through.  There were actually folks that said they would rather not see non-ops on their board because obviously "diets don't work." I have posted perhaps 20 times on the Main board in the 2+ years I've been a member of OH.  They definitely don't want you going on that board stating that there are other ways to lose weight.  I post mainly to questions that have nothing to do with WLS.  Even the grads board didn't make me feel welcome and that is supposedly for people who are 1 year "out" from weight loss. Eh, I'd cancel my subscription and keep coming back here where we are fun!!!!!!

I knew the site was mostly WLS, that's one of the reasons I started using it.  Initially, I was pursuing the surgery.  The site has given me the ability to see things from the post-op patient's point of veiw.  Sometimes I wish I still had the surgery as an option, but for the most part I'm glad that its not.   The reason I stayed was the non-op board.  At the moment I feel like I don't belong even here.  Everyone that posts regularly seems to at least be proactive about loosing wieght, something I haven't yet been able to do.  I've dieted before, so I can relate to the posts, but I sometimes feel like a big faker.  I'm hoping that once my kids are back in school I'll be able to feel re-energized, and swing into action. I am going to attempt to cancel my subscription.  Glad its not just me :)  just wanted to add - the warmth and welcoming from this board has also kept me here!

I would just cancel as well. It's true...there are tons of resources for the old fashioned way.  One would think though, that OH would include at least a standing article about nutrition for way post ops and non-ops.

I agree with Donna and Neecee.  We are few and far between on this site.  I'm glad you spoke up though.

Yeah I subscribed to OH too, when I was trying to lose weight before weight loss surgery.  It was good because I learned a lot about my surgery and got motivated to have the surgery, but it was bad because I got no motivation to lose weight on my own.  I'm glad you said something to them.  I kind of wanted to too, but didn't know where to go to say something.
