Pria bars
Has anyone tried the Pria bars, 110 calorie bars and protein select bars? I was reading the nutrition info on the protein select bar and noticed that it has 22g carbs, but 18g is sugar alcohols. I've only tried the 110 calorie bars and I thought they were pretty good. They have about 15-16g carbs (9g sugars). Just curious if anyone has opinions on the carbs, sugars, etc.
I do bars occassionally. In a pinch and when I am staggeringly hungry I will opt for a protein bar. Beats a candy bar, muffin, bag of chips, ho ho. LOL Well you get the idea. Either that or I grab a banana which to me is like a big yellow candy bar there are so many calories. But bananas are very filling and are packed chock full of good stuff.
I always have a bar or two in the fridge. Right now I have a Kashi Go Lean in my drawer.

It says in it "Designed for an Optimized Glycemic Response with slow release carbohydrates to balance blood sugar, and protein and fiber to help you stay satisfied."
The way that I look at it is, yes, I believe in the Glycemic Index. If I didn't I wouldn't have stayed on South Beach for the past 2 years. However, I believe more than anything it is a matter of beating the food demons. I will avoid things that spike my GI, but I don't necessarily believe it made me fat!!!
For me having a bar that has protein and good stuff in it sure beats a candy bar.
US Davis has done recent studies on the sugar alcohol thing. I'll have to dig around and find a report I have.
Most RD's say that the term "net carb" is a marketing ploy. A carb is a carb. That the product has fiber is a bonus, but as far as a scientific calculation that sugar alc carbs minus fiber = net carbs is BALoney. The sugar alcohol carbs may be slowed down in the assimilation process by the high fiber, but they still are recognized as a carb by your body.
I try to stick with bars that have under 10 carbs no matter how you slice them. In a pinch, yes, I'd eat a pria. Not like it's poison or harmful or anything.
The glycemic index is real and helps people realize that the hi glyc foods do rush into your system much faster than the low glyc foods. ALL foods are still important, so white processed flours aside, some out of the ground foods, like carrots are not *bad*, yes they have a higher glyc index rating. Sometimes our bodies need that sugar NOW.
Sometimes when I write this stuff out, i feel like food has lost its "joy". Truly, yes I keep lots of this stuff in mind, but i want to still enjoy my damn food, don't you????

I'm a Luna girl -- I looove Strawberries & Creme. But I try to keep my bar consumption to a minimum. I have a few because I'm doing a road trip these next few days.
