I have been instructed by my Nutrionist that I went to for my former WLS but still go to for Diabetes to consume meal replacement shakes high in protein and lower in sugar, actualy 6 grams of sugar or less. I work in the Healthcare field where it is not always easy to eat so to not eat and then when I ''might'' be able to hours upon hours I would well still over eat. Health Wise and Unjury make excellent products and are recommened by Bariatric Professionals as well as Diabetes Specialists. To a scoop of protein I add skim milk for the extra protein and for the full feeling. Adding protein powder to Cream of Wheat or oatmeal (made with 8oz yes 8 of skim milk) is high protein and very filling. Adding cheese to all soups add extra protein also and filling. Keeping carbs and sugar under 6grams and protein levels high is filling...........

I like Slim Fast High Protein - you get it in the health food section of the grocery store.

Body fortress is a good one.  I buy EAS low cal shakes too - the ones that are ~100 cals each. Also, the type sold in Costco - welletronics i think? I mix into ff milk or 1/2 c juice and some water, or mix well into cold water, then into my coffee.   I also love the unflavored soy protein at GNC..can add to bean soup, or miso, or stir into milk and put on cereal, or stir into low sugar yogurt and add 1 c thawed blueberries - wonderful mini-meals! adds only 60 calories and about 15 g protein. Look for low cal per serving, low to no carb. My lifestyle during my work day is high stress, varied schedule, so convenience hi protein, low calorie packable things are saving my life. Otherwise, i would tend to go too long between mini-meals and go ape**** when I found anything to eat.  I find chicken breasts don't ride well in my briefcase!  LOL... There is a giant debate about meal replacements, of course. The danger might be that they can become added calories. I am trying hard to eat a mini-meal every couple hours during my day.   I rarely just have a shake, except at breakfast.  I usually have a piece of fruit or raw veggies or whole grain crackers with a bit of pb with it. At night I enjoy a REAL meal with real food with my DH...just careful with the portions. Weekends I back off the protein shakes also, try to have more high fiber, low fat foods to replace my high protein regime.

hey Neecee! Okay, I have a dang question for you.  I'd say you and I are at pretty much the same spot in our journey.  We have lost a good amount and we work it every single day.  That being said, why aren't we losing?  It's like I've determined that I can maintain this weight at around 1400-1500 calories a day and plenty of working out but I can't seem to lose an ounce.  Am I not eating enough?  What do you think it is with you?  I know that we stay on the straight and narrow at least 90% of the time, so what gives? I am really tired of beating myself up about this and I have honestly adopted Shari's idea and focused on staying where I am and maintaining, thereby cementing into place all of the great new habits I've developed.

It's just frustrating and I wanted your take on it.  I'm damn near convinced I need to see someone that can help me figure this out.  Then I think, well what if this is it, and can I be okay with it?  Mostly yeah, but I just wonder.

boy, ya got me. You really do. Pushed against a wall, i guess I'd say hormones are not our friend, somehow must guard against dropping fuel.  My body had done this all my life, hang onto weight stubbornly - I am a HARD worker, and my bod is extremely efficient at managing fuel. That has worked for me and against me..conversely, no matter how much I eat i have not gained (til lately), and CERTAINLY have not lost either. I see the doubt in my PCP's eyes when I tell him that I exercise nearly every day! My DH and I dated for many years before we moved in together, and when we did get married and co-habitate, he cannot believe how much i move, how little I eat. We both marvel that I hang onto to this much fat. Being 50 helps me accept myself...most of my contemporaries at any weight are aging lots rougher than i am. The thinner ones have saggy asses, wrinkles, the fatter ones have absolutely dissolved into being fat forever. I'm happy that i am this active, for the most part, positive thinking, able to give love more AND receive it.  Like I have said, i am over trying to make people believe how hard i work at this - EYE know how much i put into it. It's enuf to love myself and have self respect. I am enough this way.

Thank you.  We are clones!!!! I am 42 and I am getting to a point, thankfully, where I do love myself most all of the time.  I am slowly working on all of the time.  I guess, as I have said a thousand times before, I wanted the numbers to read differently.  I will also slowly accept that not as a measure of my success, but as a number, like millions of others in my life. Thanks Neecee, you always make sense.  And yeah, at my age I'm glad that I am fit, toned and happy as will as very healthy.  What more could we ask for?

I agree with the EAS lo-cal or lo-carb for that matter.  Those are good drinks. The chocolate is the best in my opinion.
