What is the best tasting meal replacement shake that you can buy from your local store?  Does it keep you feeling full for very long? Brenda

None.  Why replace a meal?

I anticipated getting some responses like yours.  I guess sometimes it's just easier.  Bob Greene is Oprah's diet coach and he has put his approval on a lot of products recently that are considered healthy items.  Slimfast is one of them.  You will see them on Olive Oil and a lot of other products. Seems like there is something wrong with everything you eat, dunno frustration.  I'd be curious to see your daily list of items you consume.   Thanks for the response. My profile has a blog post containing what I do and eat in a typical day.  I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables; my main dish for dinner most nights is a pretty big salad.  One comment I see many times on these forums is that people do not like fruits or vegetables.  I'm lucky in that respect perhaps, because I very much like them. I've been considering changing what I eat for breakfast though.  I eat eggs often and I like them, but they don't have much volume bang for my buck.  What I mean by that is 2 eggs is around 150 calories but there's not much too them.  By contrast, one quarter of a cantaloupe is 70 calories and it *feels* like more food.  The reason I jump on shakes and the like is the same reason I jump on using the term "diet."  Most of us have dieted, multiple times.  I think replacing a meal with a shake is indicative of a temporary behavior that you will stop once you have reached your goal.  I don't think that will work in the long run.

Volume bang, no-- but you get protein, and you need it, especially now that you're consuming less meat. If you want more volume for less calories, use Egg Beaters-- real eggs with less yolk-- and you can stretch them by adding skim milk, or tossing some veggies or salsa in the mix.

volume is not what i seek many times...sometimes, yes. I am finding that eating nutrient dense foods in smaller mini-meal format is really working.  I work hard at eating lots of fruits&vegs, but frankly, those alone just don't stick with me. Protein is where it's at..after all these years...I know i experience less hunger when I eat a goodly amount of protein. Shakes are one way to get there..otherwise..whaddya gonna do? one can only eat so much damn tuna, eggs, cottage cheese. AND they don't ride well. Egg beaters with fresh or frozen spinach omelet + one slice alpine lace cheese is one of my faves on the rare mornings I wake up starving. You can have 2/3 c egg beaters and an endless amounf of spinach and feel stuffed for not many cals, if that volume feeling is what you are wanting.

Um...well-- in my case, it's because I would die if I didn't ;) I can't eat enough to get the requisite nutrition without it yet. I can consume much more in fluid form than solids-- ergo, protein powder in my skim milk. Some people are on-the-go and literally do not have time to make something or consume it the way they ought to-- I suppose that's another reason. Also-- some people are all-or-nothing types, and feel more secure not eating at all. My mom is of that ilk. I didn't inherit that.

Hi Brenda, On the very rare occassion I will choose a slim fast shake, only because I am either on the run or just not very hungry.  I probably consume 1-2 slim fast shakes per month.   Most of the times if I am on the run I grab a cheese stick and an apple.  I try not to get hungry enough that the food court at the mall starts to look good.  LOL I haven't looked that heavily into shakes, they just never interested me.  Slimfast isn't even the best option because it's loaded with sugar.  But I have one at work and at home in the fridge, and another 3 or 4 cans on the shelf. Neecee drinks shakes, maybe she'll be able to help you.

I replaced a sasauge biscuit with a yoplait light (which does have the best life diet seal) I dont use meal replacements, I have in the past and I really liked the Atkins shakes... but I have developed an allergy to sucralose (splenda) so many 'diet' foods dont work for me.
What I've eaten is here for the world to see
336.1 (8-1-07)/319.0 (12-28-07)/200 (goal for 12-31-08)/160 (goal)
Next mini goal is 290 by 1-31-08

Hey, Brenda! I bought some Body Fortress Whey Protein powder at WalMart for about $12.00 for 2 lbs. I mix it with skim milk, a banana (or frozen strawberries), and a small scoop of low fat, no sugar ice cream. YUMMY!!!!!  And because it's protein, you're very full!  And it doesn't have that aftertaste that SlimFast and others have. I initially bought the chocolate, but the vanilla is more versatile. Good luck! Bren
