Donna - another SB question!
Thanks for sharing about the Fiber One Bars. I only had one left in my pantry anyway and gave it to my son for an after-school snack. Anyway, I read the SB diet book, but I guess I'm still not understanding the GI - I'm looking at Carb grams and was thinking I should keep them under 30 per meal, b/c I noticed that's what a lot of the recipes called for. Can you give me anymore insight into this? Thanks in advance!
Hi Heather, For me I never counted the amount of carbs, per se. For me it was about not eating any simple carbs, staying away from even the "good" carbs at the beginning and really detoxing my system.
I do not eat "fake" foods such as sugar free stuff because when they take something out, they put something else in. Fake sugars are also carbs but your body processes them differently. For myself i basically choose whole foods, meats, fruits and vegetables. "Good" carbs are also misleading because in my weight control oatmeal that i have 3-4 times a week there are like 27 gms of carbs. But they are good carbs. The premise at least for me is to stay away from any "white" flours, processed foods, simple carbohydrates, etc.
In the end it occurred to me that it really didn't matter if something spiked my glycemic index, it was up to me to control what i ate and change my eating habits so it wasn't difficult to avoid the bad foods. The problem with me is that I am hyper sensitive to carbohydrates. White pasta and i parted ways over 2 years ago, at the same time i parted ways with white bread, pastries, danish, junk food. Even now when I choose to eat "badly" I am choosing home baked foods made with wheat flour -- evil Christmas cookies, etc. If I were starting SB again I would detox my system for 2 weeks with the whole foods like chicken and vegetables, period. It's hard, not easy at all, it wreaks havoc on your mind!!! But it is worth it. Rumor has it that 3 weeks without carbs and there is no more cravings. And you know what, that's true!!!!
