Giving ourselves credit
I find that the posts that tell about us doing "bad" far outnumber the ones about us doing "good". I think it's time we really looked at the positive parts of our journey instead of the slip ups. Here was a positive for me.
This morning I woke and I ate a good breakfast, turkey bacon, 2 "fried" eggs and a wheat pancake w/sugar free syrup. It's a lot of food for me in the morning but since I work out early today I like to start good, since I usually eat a combination lunch and dinner on the weekend. Anyhow, I ate at around 9:15 after my 7:30 - 9 workout, and then did a massive house cleaning. I decided to shower and go to the grocery store at around 1:30. So now I'm pretty hungry but I didn't eat before I left. On the way to the store I start my bargaining, negotiating, whatever you want to call it. I get to the store and buy the required items and then start looking around for something to snack on. Pick it up, check the calories, put it down. I'm playing all these head games with myself. So I leave the store with just the groceries and promptly turn down the street with the bakery outlet on it. I go in and walk around. The desire to buy something was strong, very strong. I walked out of there with 1/2 gallon of diet iced tea.
I think we really need to highlight the times where all of our new habits kick in and we succeed in beating the carb devil, instead of letting him beat us. I really could have given in. The reminders of what the carbs felt like was really palpable. But I remembered the last number on the scale, lower than it's been in a LONG time, and I conquered it. I'm proud of myself!!
you are of course, correct. Congrats on your walk through the stores and your success in buying only positive choices.
thanks for reminding me (in the wake of the cookie incident) that I have done so well this month. As of today I am down 17 lbs since Aug 1. Even though I ate a cookie I didnt allow myself a real binge, I started eating protien again right away... and I am proud of myself for that!
What I've eaten is here for the world to see

I totally agree with you! Those mini triumphs are drops in the bucket that all add up to success.
Even though I went to Jenny Craig on Thursday I didn't plan on starting until Monday b/c we were doing some things over the weekend that would distract me. I ended up starting yesterday (Friday) anyway since I had all the food and thought it would be good to try and if I slipped then I would get right back on the wagon. Weekends are tough b/c everyone is home and eating and going out etc.
I did pretty well Friday but did not get in 1 of my fruit and 1 of my veggie requirements and also did not eat my snack/dessert at night. Today was a little tougher b/c I need to get some groceries (veggies, fruits, jello, etc).
Considering I was not planning on starting until Monday I am really pleased b/c I made an earnest effort. Actually it has helped me see what I should have on hand in case I get the munchies.
The biggest thing is that I am working on trying to accept a different relationship with food. I know it's a long process but that is a start.
Thanks for a great thread! And you should be proud of yourself! Way to go!
