Is Splenda better than aspartame?   When I buy stuff like sugar-free pudding... do I need to make sure it has splenda and not the other artificial sweetner? What about diet ocean spray cranberry?  Can you drink as much as you want since it has splenda ? Thank you in advance, Michelle

I loved splenda.... used tons of it... but have since developed an allergy.... now if I accidently get some I have hives from my ankles to my forehead....  it is NOT nice so I say enjoy in moderation and watch out for unexplained allergies.... Splenda officially says that it is not possible to be allergic to it.... but since I sent them an email with photos they have had 5 people call me to discuss exactly what happened....  I think they are gathering info....

I've heard Splenda's great.  I've also heard it was the antichrist.   I personally love it and refuse to stop using it.

LOL that is pretty much what it comes down to! I love it too - I WISH I could still use it...but alas.... I have heard that some have terrible "digestive issues"   but the flavor is so nice...  and great for cooking....

I've had folks tell me that you can't taste aspartame... but I can.. get this NASTY aftertaste...  I don't get that at all with splenda..  I'm a splenda head.. all day long in my coffee, or when I bake, to trick husband into thinking there is sugar on his strawberries!  AHHHHHH (hope he doesn't read this). I make an icebox cake out of sugar free/fat free pudding w/splenda and fat free milk, graham crackers and bananas.   No one knows the difference around here...   what they don't know just might help them!  :)  I wouldn't OD on it either... too much of anything can't be good.

splenda is better to cook with. I like the 50-50 stuff they sell. I use it in nut bread recipes that ask for a high amount of sugar. Truth is, I feel i should avoid nearly all the foods that have splenda...for the most part, it is still empty calories.  Like for cereal, I got used to eating it years ago with only fresh fruit & milk. I never sugar-fy my tea or coffee, so that is not a problem.  We buy those talking Rain drinks for a soda alternate and I like them once in a while. Does the ocean spray have caloires still?   I have not read the label, bu****ch that.

I like the taste of Splenda better than other sweeteners, but when I use too many (more than 3 packets at a time) the calories add up.  A word to the wise!

Yanno... ya scared me for a minute on the calorie front.  I use splenda in every cup of coffee.. about 5 or 6 cups a day, so I went to the splenda site and read that it doesn't have any calories.  If you know something I don't, please enlighten me.

Personally, I think splenda tastes like $%!^!   I am against splenda merely because it tastes bad to me. I prefer aspartame which is a carcinogen... But I do what tastes good! :D Splenda is sucralose. Sucralose is chlorinated sugar. The chlorination process is used to make many pesticides. Ever hear of DDT? :)   But it tastes good right?   We've actually had this debate here before. However, since OH has a crappy forum system and I can't figure out how to search posts I'll just search the web and give you some links to places where you can learn about the side affects of splenda. (and other artificial sweeteners.)  The important thing to remember is that it is NOT sugar despite the claims by the manufacturer. Did it start as sugar...?  In the very beginning I'm sure..since then..no of course not. The manufacturers create the compound chemically in a lab. When first discovered, I imagine sugar was used but nonetheless it was modified at the molecular level..therefore it's no longer sugar.  It's been *******ized!  A better alternative is Stevia.  I have not tried it but it is natural and many say it tastes better than all artificial sweeteners. Probably because it's not artificial... Here are some good links.  You can make your own determination of whether it's good or bad for you. There is still a LARGE amount of debate over this. For me, I can't stand the taste so it's a no-brainer. I hate sugar in any of my drinks. I can't stand the after-taste. Same goes for splenda and sweet-n-low. http://www.truthaboutsplenda.com/ http://suewidemark.com/splenda.htm http://www.womentowomen.com/nutritionandweightloss/splenda.a sp http://www.mercola.com/2000/dec/3/sucralose_testimonials.htm

Thank -you everyone for all the replies and thank you Chris for the links on Splenda.  Yesterday was my first day of eating anything with Splenda.   I have been SICK!  I have a funny smell that I can't get out of my nose.   I didn't even research Splenda before I started using it,  which is weird to me because I research everything.  I buy organic fruits and vegetables when I can afford them and make sure everything is chemical free.
