Has anyone tried Xenadrine. My doctor just prescribed it. States I need to try this first before I can be a candidate for surgery.  Does anyone have any tips on how to use, or how to speed up my weight loss. Also interested in protein shakes, Has anyone tried a liquid diet before? How much weight can I expect to lose on the Xenadrine each week?

Did your doctor give you instructions on using it?  Did you talk to your doctor about combining them with a liquid diet?  Did your doctor suggest a liquid diet?   Have you considered a second opinion?  Xenadrine has not been approved by the FDA.  I am suprised that your doctor would recommend it. Edited to say - I see you are in Canada.  perhaps it is an approved medication there. Edited again to say - nope it isnt... in fact it appears to be an illegal substance in Canada.. unless the laws have changed since this was written. http://www.cbc.ca/news/story/2001/11/22/xenadrine_011122.htm l

OMG it is not Xenadrine it is called XENICAL  - I sure hope that is approved in Canada.. No, I did not discuss a liquid diet with my doctor. I just though having a protein shake as at least on emeal replacement might give me a boost, speed up the process a bit.

That's what Alli is in full strength.  I've tried it and it was hell.  It made my tooshie leak all the time.  You need to keep your fat intake really low.  How low, I don' t know, because it doesn't come with instructions like Alli does, but I found the drug to be hellish.

Xenical (orlistat) is a lipase inhibitor.  This medication blocks the absorption of fat in your intestine.  It is exactly the same as Alli - just dosages are different. The medication instructions are usually to take 1 capsule with/or within 1 hour of a fatty meal.  The recommendations for diet are to reduce your fat to less than 30% of calories from fat (this is the same as heart association guidelines) In the dietetic community - you will hear that orlistat is to fat, what antabuse is to alcohol. It's not necessarily pleasant, to say the least. The fat you eat will not be absorbed, so it will still need to exit your intestine.  There are some people who are unable to manage the anal sphincter with this drug, and may lead to "anal leakage" - which is messy.  Regardless, you will have steatorrhea - which is the technical term for fatty stool.  Your stools will be greasy, often messy, and often stinky.  The end result is that eating fat is unpleasant so you will reduce your intake while on the drug.  The drug is a type of behavior modification... Good Luck!

okay xanadrine is very different from xenical. xanadrine is a herbal supplement that they sell over the counter made up of caffeine and whatever other random crap they want to throw in there. xenical is the fat blocker that a few people have mentioned below. i would guess though that if you doctor prescribed it, then its probably xenical. i took it and didn't have any issues with it. i think it helped me not to gain more weight as opposed to losing weight. it basically forces you to follow a low fat diet, so as long as you keep your calories in check, you will lose weight like a normal person (1-2 lbs a week = healthy weight loss).

Neecee, What do you use for your protein shakes. Is it a powder drink that you buy or a home made recipe.. I'm not sure Xenical will help, as I truely believe my problem is with carbs and not fat. Xenical does not block calories from sugar or carbs.  My diet also lacks protien, as I am not fussy about alot of the meats out there. I am also very ignorant when it come sto nutrition, so other than Peanut butter, I'm not sure where I would get my protein.

I have an associate who uses fiber tabs with alli with good results..helps the spatter-fart aspect of the orlistat thing.  She takes two fiber tabs whenever when she uses the orlistat and it probably helps bind it.  I use protein shakes...aka protein powder to supplemnt my goal to intake more protein daily. Thye must be at least 15 g protein per serving and under 10 g carb, better to be more like 5 g carb. I feel more satisfied all day long, less hungry when I do this:  eat about 100+ g of protein daily.  I try to eat lean animal protein also, but is doesn't ride as well in my briefcase. Fat is moderate:  30-35% goal carbs, which is fruits, veggies, grains pretty much = about 100g daily.   I have to eat all foods or I will snap after about 3 days. I know some folks do nothing but protein drinks, but they are a temporary fix in my opinion.  Good only for a short term boost.
