Discouraged: 5lb gain OVERNIGHT!
Wow.. 5 lbs... overnight. I REALLY need to catch a break here.. just one break.. just one sign of encouragement.
It's nice to know my therapist has figured out my problem.. the same one I'm complaining about.. I'M FAT! Gee.. I paid for that diagnosis? Now I KNOW I'm crazy!
Oh .. I hope this is a hormonal thing. I just never really noticed if I gain quickly at that time or not. I biked the preprogammed workout of 25 minutes to burn only 100 calories and get 1.75 miles. Was that even worth it knowing that I could get on the scale tomorrow and see any headway I made completely gone?
*sigh* and the thoughts of surgery keep running through my head.
you do realize that our bodies are about 60-70% water? NO WAY did you gain 5# of fat overnight. Not possible. Each pound = 3500 calories ingested that you did not burn.
So, did you eat 17, 500 calories last night? Hmmm..didn't think so.
Yes, you are fat by medical standards AND you have low esteem. Maybe cuz you don't feel good, let alone attractive, maybe related to being fat.
A reality check on exercise: unless you are a competitor or no job and can hang out at the gym all day long, exercise that most of us do is barely damage control. Yep, for all my effort wogging outside most days, that equates to about 250 calories burned, maybe up to 300 if I make sure to go 70 minutes, pretty fast. That is about two cookies, 1/2 sandwich worth.
Exercise's function is more about overall conditioning, cellular actions, metabolic trigger. Its usefulness should consider caloric burn pretty low on the totem pole. Yes, it's better than sitting on your butt all day, in fact it is vital to overall good health.
Sure, running all out for an hour at a 8-9 minute pace sure does burn the calories, but try that for more than a few months in a row and if you don't blow out a hip or knee or foot, I'll eat my hat. Go for several types of exercise: conditioning, aerobic, mix it up when you can! Work real hard once in a while and see amazing benefits in toning.
Breathe...do what you need to do today to be healthy.
I second what Neecee has said. She's 100% correct. You may need to stop weighing everyday if this type of gain makes you feel this way. Try to decrease it to once every 3 days or maybe even a week. Just concentrate on making healthy choices and stop worrying so much about losing the weight. What we are all doing is sooo much more than just losing weight!
are you drinking enough? I find that I retain less water the more I drink. I know it doesnt make sense but it IS true. If I drink my 64oz + per day I dont have the bigger fluctuations....
and yes 5 lbs over night is NO****er.
That said, when I was on atkins a few years back I would retain water like crazy... sometimes gaining several pounds then the *woosh* fairy would come. I would pee all day long and wake up 10 lbs lighter ... dont know that that was about.... but maybe the *woosh* fairy is coming to you?

The woosh fairy comes everyday by way of 40 mg of lasix. I tried not to think of it all night or I would have indulged in the fried chicken tenderloins I did up for everyone else. I think sleep helped... I might have found a way to get around this middle of the night thing.
I waited until I could hardly keep my eyes open.. my blood sugar was reasonable.. 128.. so I ate a whole egg with 1 egg white done in a pan with pam. It was enough to not only keep me asleep, but when I awoke, I was 127. That's sorta unheard of for me. I slept from about 2:00am to about 9:00am. I was shocked when I woke up and the house was light. I also switched up a nutrisystem dessert for a no sugar Italian ice... (right up my alley).. that tasted like "home". Guess that's what people mean by "comfort" food.
I don't know who's idea it was to buy those, but the three of 'em got my compliments!
Everyone is right .. this is more than losing weight... but I can't help but to be obsessed with everything I put in my face and every ounce the scale moves. I hate it that this is all I think about anymore.
... and I don't want to get on the scale.. I hate that scale.. I just can't help myself.
thanks for the support... it's hard getting going, yanno... and I find such inspiration in your words.
WOOO HOOO 7 hours of solid sleep. If the eggs just before sleep helps keep it up!
and congrats on not giving into the fried chicken! Each step forward is a success.
