Do you remember the weight you were at at specific times in your life?  Here are mine.  I don't have many because I'm only 28, but here are mine:

107 - 3rd grade - too scared to get on a seesaw with anyone

193 - 8th grade - I lied to my gym teacher about how much I weighed during our "fitness" regime

286 - 10th grade - first time I tried Weigh****chers

330 - 25 years old - First time I started Jenny Craig

386 - Lap band journey began

398 - 27 years old - Second time I started Jenny Craig

351 - First time I weighed myself after having the surgery.

331 - Now.

you are back to where you were at 25!  WAY TO GO I dont remember the weights... but I do remember sizes.... Elementery School - Husky sizes in the Sears big book....  oh the shame... Going through the catalog with my mom.... That big book would get plunked down and she would say you have your choice of 5 dresses....  all those clothes....  and I had my choice of 5..... 7th grade.  Size 14 womens jeans... and they were at least a foot too long.  When I asked if I could have a seamstress take them up my mom said to wear them 'as is'  so that I could remember not to overeat...  she said eventually I would grow taller (hummph I was at my grown height then) and if I was careful they would be just the right length... 11th grade - prom dress size 16.  I had to go to the fat lady store.  We ordered the biggest size from JC Penny but it didnt fit.  It was an 18... 21 years old - my first wedding.  I didnt wear a wedding dress.  Just a skirt and matching blouse from Sears.  It was a size 22.

27 years old - after the birth of my son I did Jenny Craig for a while and managed to get back down to a size 22 for a while....

31 years old - I left my first husband.  size 26/28 32 years old - it was a rough year.  I quit smoking too..... size 28/30 39 years old - I am once again very limited in my choices of clothes.  I wear a 32. but am on my way back down

I actually remember mother saying "well what do you expect.  They dont make prom dresses in your size because they know that no one asks girls your size to go." It felt like she was saying I should call my date (good friend, not boyfriend of course) and tell him that I couldnt go because I was too fat to be worthy... oh to be a fat kid now.... it would be so much easier...

I feel the same way. My school's swim team is loaded with size 18 girls...I can scarcely believe it! It's a different world.  Hey, my date ended up making out with my friend's date in the back of the limo-- they were gay. (I was a typical fat girl *** hag, what can I tell you?) Tell me THAT'S not a fun thing to walk in on?

I'm actually glad to be of that era, in a way. Too much self-esteem leads to low-rise jeans with heinous muffin tops, apparently, and I ain't that kinda girl. I'm still of the "don't let your pooch fly out in all directions" school.  Don't get me wrong--I'm glad fat girls have better esteem, but they're also much bigger much younger than we were-- their struggles are going to be literally immense. The fact that the culture is turning fatter in general will help them feel more accepted, but also enable greater comfort at a  young age with weights that will likely fail them at an older age, as mine did. The most frustrating thing I think facing young kids today is actually the immense chasm between how fat actual people are and how thin the celebrities and role models are. That gap is nonsensical and a killer, for certain. These kids are being raised with the notion that you can live in a Baconator™ culture and have Paris Hilton's physique, and it's simply not the case. Men are falling in love with round girls, and hiding them out of shame. Girls are eating supersized meals and wondering why they can't get their asses in their size 7 jeans-- it's madness all around. Truth is, it's no fun for anyone. I believe in fat acceptance, but not necessarily FATE acceptance. It's taken the last ounces of energy I own just to keep my head above water these days. I wish I had been raised differently, wish I could have a do-over, but I can't. And I feel badly for this generations struggles-- while different (at least they can have clothes, even if they suck), it's still horribly challenging.

Hey--- since I am just a hair ahead of you-- as I outgrow things, I will save them for you! They say I will only be in some sizes for a moment, so they'll be gently used, right? I'm just now stuffing myself back into 26/28s. Jeez.

that would be so cool! I get what you are saying about the kiddos....  my son is big, has always been 'sturdy' he wears husky jeans not because of fat but because his thighs are incredilbly muscled and he needs the room.

but he is overweight.  I try to model good habits, but he likes to eat crap and he eats a lot.  Taking him off school lunches helped.  Did you know a middle school lunch is required to have 600 calories on average?  The have to provide half the daily requirement!  Just incredible. dont know what to do about the paris hilton's of this world.  Fortunatley my boy thinks Rachel Ray is the bomb... and the girl who played hermione granger,,,LOL

The school lunch ladies mourn my loss. They really do. I ate regular school lunches from age 5 until--- January. An actual school lunch: Fried mozzerella sticks and tomato sauce. And that's it! They say, "It's protein, dairy AND vegetables!" And I tell 'em, "You're full of **** y'know." We have a wellness program, but the machines are now 50% lowfat and healthy choices and 50% same old Doritos and Tastycakes and Twix Bars. Middle school kids don't buy lunch as a general rule -- even if their parents think they do---- they buy three or four snacks and a large sugary iced tea, as a general rule. Or fries and a drink. Or then, there' s the girls, who make fun of one another for eating at all....:::sigh:::

middle school kids buy lunches here.  parents call with a debit and pay for a few weeks at a time....  or they will take a check for the year... or auto debit every month.... then the kids just give their student number to the lunch lady... she punches it in, the school photo shows on the screen and they get lunch.  pretty swift. now if they would just serve them better food and lower calories... and maybe let the parents say no to chocolate milk....
