Hello!  I decided to come over here and read the board of people who have not had weight loss surgery.  I had the LapBand Dec 13, 2004.  I lost 70 pounds, gained 40 back and now am trying to lose once more.  I feel like I ave never had a surgery.  I am now doing this all on my own. My "tool" doesn't help.  I pray to God one day I will wake up and it will be useful to me.   As soon as the FDA approved the weight loss pill, Alli...I pre-ordered it.  The box came and it sat here for 3 weeks before I opened it.  I finally did and boy am I glad.  My mindset has changed.  I am trying my hardest to make better choices.  My problem is going to the gym..YUK!   My question is...are any of you taking Alli!?!  If so how are you doing? XOXO Nicole

Hi, Nicole! There were a couple of posts about Alli in the General Forum a few days ago.  I went up to page 40 looking for them for you, but got tired.  You may take over from there and go back a few more days.  There were several views about it, pro and con. Let us know if you try it. Brenda

There are a few people using Alli successfully on here.  Christa's using it, Snugglepotomous is on it  - they can offer some advise.

I haven't taken it in a bout 2 weeks...but today I am going back on it. I believe in it. I remember my first week I dropped 7 pounds. Just follow a diet and do some exercise and the Alli works great, it also helps me not eat as much fat because I am always scared of the consequences. :)

"Just follow a diet and do some exercise and the Alli works" Is it the Alli that works?

I meant, it contributes. Ofcourse diet and exercise is going to help you without Alli. But my first week with Alli I did not exercise one bit....shoot I haven't exercised since proably June! So Alli contributes, it isn't some kind of miracle or anything sometimes I feel like it is mental....scared to eat anything to bad or it will hurt me...so I eat less fat that contributes as well. Am I rambling? Am I even making sense!? lol. Anyways, I say give Alli a try, but each to their own. Today I am going for a walk in the evening, and my mother was talking about going back to the gym.... :) I like the gym I just need to get my arse up to do it!!!!! So hopefully I can get this back on track I NEED to actually TRY!!!!

Go for that walk, let us know how it went.  You were into softball, go to the batting cages maybe?

Softball....my passion. Sometimes when I am at my parents I get my glove, bat, and ball out and do some stuff...bat against the cage or pitch against the cage. Ahh the good days. :)

Sure it does. Just like Antabuse works for alcoholics. You drink, you vomit. With Alli, you eat fat, you crap yourself. If you knew you wouldn't crap yourself, you might eat a lot more. So sure, it "works." Should people be able to, knowing that, limit themselves to the small amounts of fat that would keep them safe and NOT take the Alli? Sure. But that's just not the way people work, Bert.  The makes of Alli are making large sums of money off of a pill that basically threatens its users...and the threat of unpleasant effects helps users feel some sense of dietary control. I feel the same way about my RNY. I am not sure I even HAD an RNY. I don't eat enough to dump or vomit. Maybe I had some placebo surgery and by my dietary changes alone am having the effects of an RNY. In the end, it was free and I stick to the plan, so it really doesn't matter to me: the results justify the means, or at least I hope they will. People are largely perceptual beings. Empirical facts and realities are not all that we are made of. Take "Homeland Security" as an example. After 9/11, I now must produce 6 forms of ID to get a driver's license in NJ. Now, any terrorist worth his salt can produce his own bogus driver's license, right? Of course. The program doesn't produce any *real* safety, probably, but by forcing each of us to forgo a civil liberty or two, we feel we surely must be safer. Right? The fact is safety really doesn't exist. Safety is something our minds like to think we can have, but all the best laid plans in the world won't stop terrorists or gravity or cancer cells from doing what they do. All we can do is prepare or set our minds to a space that helps us feel in some form of control. Alli does that for its users. So yes, it "works."
