Surgery...The Aftermath

Hey gang. I had my surgery yesterday, and I am in alot of pain. I've been prescribed hydrocodone, but that  doesn't help just makes me sleepy. The pain is still there. The morphine they gave me at the hospital didn't help either. My leg is so stiff too! I wish I could cut it off. It is in a brace, locked with a cold compression machine on it.  The doctor ended up stitching my cartilage so I will be on crutches for 6 weeks. Right now I'm miserable.  I will also have to do PT. I am not looking forward to it either. I know its going to be painful.  Well that's it gang. Thankfully I'm staying at the same weight. These next 6 weeks are going to be a challenge with eating and being on bed rest. I want out!

Hey Bud, I had my right knee operated on in March of 2005 and my left knee in April of 2005.  Can you say tough recovery?  To add to all of it, I was over 350 pounds at that point.  It's one of the reasons I lost weight!!!! To walk. I know it's painful.  You had a more involved surgery than me, I didn't have crutches.  I know it all sucks right now, just hang in there and take care of you!

Hang in there and take those meds, even sleepy is better than totally awake the day after surgery. You'll do find with your eating the next 6 weeks because you won't be forgetting how far you've come and how much more you want to lose. All the best for a very speedy recovery, Melinda

Hi Bud, Sorry you're in such pain.  I agree, sleep through it if you have to.  I hope that you recover quickly and that your pain becomes more tolerable real soon.  Hang in there buddy.

Sleep it out, Bud.  Sleep as much as you can.  You can't eat when you're sleeping. :)

I'm sending you wishes for a speedy, painfree recovery. Yes, it will be hard to keep your eating habits/exercise in line, but you can do it!!! I hope you feel better soon :)

Glad you're home! Take those meds, but also take some Colace...this is spoken by One Who Knows! Any narcotic meds will stop you up madly!

PT can be very helpful. My PT was very useful in helping me learn some ways to move without worsening my injuries, and he helped me get my favorite piece of furniture-- my new shower chair! Take care, and sleep while you can. I am convinced sleep is magical stuff!

hey Bud..one more thing...as for your gaining concerns...don't get overwhelmed.  This is the ideal time to practice one day at a time, even one hour at a time. You have a fairly long period of recovery, so this is important to break it up into manageable pieces.  Just try to have better choices around, fruit bowls, that kind of thing.
