FitDay.com Not sure I'm impressed

A lot of you rave about fitday.com.  You all know I hate tracking my food. However, I do realize how utterly important that it is.  Therefore I thought I'd give fitday.com a try.  I thought I would log my day yesterday for starters.   I didn't eat breakfast yesterday so I tried to log my lunch but what I ate is no where to be found. Of course I can find the chicken and what not but what about the tomato basil wheat wrap???? How the heck do you count that?   See, if they would tie fitday.com in with calorieking.com then I think we'd be in business!  Maybe I'm just using it wrong.

Lunch: Lil' Red Rooster  - Grilled chicken  - Hickory smoked bacon  - Cilantro  - Some kind of special sauce that tasted like Honey mustard with horseradish  - All wrapped in a tomato basil wheat wrap. About 3 oz of mixed fresh cut fruit. (Sure wish they'd have given me more!!)  - Honey dew  - Cantalope  - Grapes  - Pineapple Dinner (on the run)  3 Oscar Mayer Cheese Dogs on white wheat buns with mayo, relish, spicy mustard. And then the 10pm snack that did me in for the day: GOBS AND GOBS of Cajun Trail Mix! OMG it's so evil!!!

You can add "customized" foods to your list using the nutrition label on the package.  Also, many restaraunts do have their nutrition "labels" on-line.

Just figured out the customized food thing.  A little irritating that the prefilled choices are so few and far between but nonetheless I'm getting the hang of it. It's not to bad really.  I found my tomato basil wrap on calorie king and put it in.     I also added in about 10 ounces of the cajun trail mix because I"m guessing that's how much I ate and for the entire day I was 1968 calories. God, I thought I did MUCH worse!   Huh, imagine that.   Now if I can just commit to doing this on a daily basis. OHh, and I actually at at Fresh Choice and not Just Fre****hink they have a sign that says Just Fresh that through me off.  That was the first time I ate there. It was so good.  I'll be going back again soon.

It IS a pain in the ass for a while, especially at first-- but if you tend to eat the same things a lot as I do, it gets easier. Don't worry if you have the exact brand or amount-- sometimes you'll be over, sometimes under-- it's a wash. I'm online all the time, so it doesn't bother me.

I tried Fitday, but found it isn't for me.  The two main reasons being when I look up items many times they aren't in there and second, I'm only on the computer from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.  I would rather keep everything handwritten in a journal.  I have my typical meals written in there so all I need to do is refer back to the calorie count.

Hey Chris!! Congrats on trying to track, Andrea would be proud!! LOL I ended up customizing most of my food.  I rarely if ever use the pulldown menus.  In the end I ate the same crap every day (creature of habit) so nothing was too exciting for me. Keep working at it, you have to do some searching to get the items you need.  Customize a lot of the food you eat and you'll get there eventually!

Fitday is more powerful and easier to use the more you use it because you will end up entering all your own custom foods, but getting there is a pain in the ass.  I find using a paper log works best for me.

There's probably a word for IT professionals who keep paper logs--  but I am not sure what it is.  Troglodyte? (PS  The $20 software version of FitDay has much better bells and whistles, I am told)

I understand what you mean by not being able to find something on fit.day.com.  I can't find any sugarfree ice cream products, only the premium kind.  It doesn't have everything. Denise Phares
