Confused about losing weight

Yet another great idea. I'm not sure why I have not thought about these things- eating healthy, eating when hungry, etc. I have to change my relationship with food. I like the tip about not going cold turkey. EVERYtime I have tried to go cold turkey with food- I end up binging and eating seriously about 5000 calories.  Everything I eat is VERY high calorie and high fat and carb content. LIke I have said in my profile- eating like that makes me feel "high". I really think it's transfer addiction or whatever that's called. I'm going to go to the grocery store tomorrow and throw out the cocoa krispies and ritz crackers and tubs of butter. I dont have any vegetables in the house. I think I'm going to start with vegetables and see how that goes. Thanks again. I am really learning some great stuff from you guys!!!

Kat -  Veggies are really hard for me so I try to "hide" them under flavors that I do like.... I love curry - so last night was curried cauliflower. I love italian - so broccoli with spagetti sauce would be good. green beans and red peppers and onions are the only ones I eat without "covering" change a little at a time and you will get there...   From Santa Claus is coming to town.....  a song we should all sing more often... Put one foot in front of the other And soon you’ll be walking cross the floor Put one foot in front of the other And soon you’ll be walking out the door You never will get where you’re going If you never get up on your feet Come on, there’s a good tail wind blowing A fast walking man is hard to beat Put one foot in front of the other And soon you’ll be walking cross the floor Put one foot in front of the other And soon you’ll be walking out the door If you want to change your direction If your time of life is at hand Well don’t be the rule be the exception A good way to start is to stand Put one foot in front of the other And soon you’ll be walking cross the floor Put one foot in front of the other And soon you’ll be walking out the door If I want to change the reflection I see in the mirror each morn You mean that it's just my election To vote for a chance to be reborn

Hi Kat, I so cannot add a freakin' THING to what everyone here as written.  I can just say I feel your pain and I understand.   Start small, when you tell yourself you CAN'T it's natural for us to say OH YES I CAN!!! LOL Good luck, please keep coming here.  We are a fun bunch and really shoot from the hip.  You are being honest, the part about no vegetables in the house made me laugh.  You now have some tools to go out there and figure things out with.

Everyone has already given you some awesome advice!  It's soooo important to start small and even more important to realize you can't do this cold turkey.  Doing something cold turkey means you'll have instant results. It doesn't work that way with healthy eating and weight loss.  The idea about starting with a good breakfast is excellent. In fact, that was one of the first things I did to start my journey. I started eating breakfast. Was it healthy, heck no!  But it was breakfast, something I rarely ever ate.  I'll share another thing with you that has helped me to 'feel healthy' and get a jump start on my lifestyle changes.  I started replacing all my beverages with water.  I started drinking 20 ounces a day and replacing my diet soda, tea, etc.  Over a 2-3 week period I had completely wiped out all other beverages and was up to 120 ounces of water a day.  (Seems like a whole lot I know but it's really not that bad.) The water helped me to feel full and it also helped to rinse my pallette as I ate so that I could  actually taste my food!  Anyways, now a days I do still drink diet soda, lo-carb energy drinks and coffee with artificial sweetener; I just limit myself to one a day. Not that any of these things are bad for you. I've just found that limiting my intake promotes healthier eating.  As time has gone by I've found that I really don't like soda at all anymore and I'm growing to not like energy drinks as much. Coffee on the other hand, I love. It gives me that jolt I need in the morning.  I guess the whole point of this is that keep it really simple, baby steps, and don't beat yourself up whenever you eat something maybe isn't the best choice.  Water is a great item to begin your journey towards a  healthier lifestyle.  For me, it's my fountain of youth so to speak. It makes me feel great both mentally and physically.  Start today by having water with your lunch.  Drink you two or three mouthfuls before you begin eating. Eat a few bites, put down your fork and drink you another mouthful or so. Rinse and repeat! heheh you'd be amazed and how much you can really taste when you slow down. Hope I helped a little!

Yes, you did! I like the "fountain of youth" comment abou****er! I really need to switch up my caffiene habit for water. I drink way too many diet colas and they are starting to hurt my stomach. Thanks for sharing.

I would suggest that you try going to an Overeaters Anonymous meeting.  They deal with compulsive overeating and food addiction very reliably.  It is a spiritual program, so be prepared to listen to others in the group talking about a "Higher Power" that helps them keep on track with their food.  I couldn't stop cheating on Weigh****chers, until I worked the OA program.  Please consider it as a possible way to get your eating under control.  It really works, if you work it!

I could not agree more. I have found the other 12step programs have worked for me in the past very successfully. I need to apply this to my food addiction. I think it's that first step that's the hardest. I've planned to go and then I will cancel. maybe I will bring a friend. Thank you.

Nope, this is the board.

"Quitting" food is hard because it's something you have to consume to survive.  So you can never quit it - you have to learn moderation, which in my opinion, is more difficult than quitting anything.  Food is an addiction - you're not alone, and you're not "wrong" for it.  Don't put blame on yourself or hate yourself.  It's a hard battle.

I'm with Neecee and Shari - Start a food journal.  Fitday.com is great.  Even if you don't "diet", just star****ching your patterns.  Watch what you eat, when you eat it, at what time of the month.  You'll be surprised at how much you don't eat once you start holding yourself accountable for your actions on a journal.

Stick with us.  Read our posts.  If you feel in a crisis, come to us.  That's what we're here for.  We've become a tight crowd and love new-comers.

Keep your chin up.  You'll get through it.   ((((BIG HUG))))
