Total Accountability

Okay, the scale had a very unreasonable number on it this morning.  I don't care that it is TOM, I don't care that the humidity level is at 98%, I don't care tha****er fluctuations are common.  I just don't CARE anymore.

I had to look back, honestly look back, and see what I have been doing.  I think what's frustrating me the most is that I am not binging on McDonalds or plates of pie and icecream, but I am grazing.  I tried to convince myself that if I upped my exercise surely I needed more food? LOL In either case, I have thought a lot about my views of food and while right now most of it is lip service, I have a whole lot of hope that I will be able to implement some of the things I have thought about, such as being less critical of myself where food is concerned. That being said, I'm not throwing in the towel and accepting that darn number!!!  I decided today to committ to Phase 1 of South Beach again.  This means I won't be having my oatmeal w/flax seed in the morning but I will eat my hard boiled eggs, one with the yolk, one without.  I am doing full protein for lunch and same for dinner.  I am cutting out all grains, even the whole grains, so no carbs.  I have to at least take off 10 of these pounds before I can breathe again and go back to what I have been doing, MINUS the grazing.  Damn grazing.   I still think the most frustrating part is that we don't have to consume 3500 calories to gain a pound when we have trained our bodies for so long to accept fewer calories.  Frustrates the bejesus out of me. Thanks for listening to my rant, and allowing me to be honest to myself first off, and to others.  I never want to sit here and say "oh I'm doing wonderfully" and not lose a pound and have others do what I state I am doing, only to find out it wasn't the truth.

Excellent rant.....that's kinda been me the past few weeks.....barely watching the scale move.... I'm not binging but have made a bad choice or two....one too many spoons of peanut butter, a piece (and I do mean piece) of pizza (I'm gluten intolerant--it would kill me to have more), not following the SB Phase One as closely I have not been exercising  ..............and still expecting to see marvelous results.....it's all my own damn fault (silly girl) (somewhere in the back of my mind says hey you've been doing awesome for 4 months; its time for a "little" break--that is BS and I know it--I can't afford to take a break!) I have a weigh in today and was hoping for better numbers it is that TOM--maybe (fingers crossed) their scales says less than mine but I doubt it...... oh well I'm human next month will be better and I'm gonna make damn sure I don't get scheduled at TOM again!!!!!

You know, you said it best.  We can't take a break, period.  There is no period of time where we can throw in the towel and just no****ch what we are doing.  I have realized that and it's only when I look back HONESTLY and see, like you said, the extra peanut butter, the extra serving, the not weighing or measuring my food, that I have to accept responsibility. Hey, we didn't kill ourselves in the process, that's definitely a big deal, right???

I'm with you Donna, I'm going back to the beach next week.  I tried South Beach a couple of years ago and did well with it.  Of course I didn't stick with it, but I do know that it works for me.  My eating has been all over the place for the last couple of weeks.  I doubt very seriously if Wednesday's weigh in will show a loss, it will probably show a gain so I'm bracing myself for that.  I have not been feeling well for the last few days (severe stomach problems).  I'm feeling much better today thank goodness but I'm still not back on track with eating right.  I'm giving up on Seattle Sutton for a couple of reasons.  (1) Too many carbs -- I've never ate so much bread in my life, and (2) it doesn't satisfy me (make me fill full).  I think that the food doesn't satisfy me because there is just not enough protein for me.  At least once sometimes twice a week the SS meals are meatless.  I know that you can certainly get protein from foods other than meat, but meat is what my body craves.  Going back to South Beach will definitely give my body all the protein it desires.  So I'm gonna join you on Sunday Donna.

I hadn't heard of Seattle Sutton before you mentioned it on here.  I am kinda surprised that it's high in carbs.  Most programs these days are based on the glycemic index and keep the carbs out of it.   I love the South Beach approach for a number of reasons.  One is because I am very sensitive to carbs, extremely sensitive, and I can pretty much eliminate them without issue!  I never did quite get to Phase 3, probably because I never reached my "goal", but I did incorporate whole grains back into my diet.  I pretty much stick to whole wheat pasta, sweet potatoes and whole wheat bread and wraps.  That's about it and I average perhaps, in a week of 21 meals, about 10 of them will have those types of whole grains or "good" carbs. I've had a great day and right now it's 7:20 and I am feeling pretty hungry.  I am going to brush my teeth and hope it passes!!!  I ate dinner, chicken breast and asparagus, around 6.  I think it's more mouth hunger than stomach hunger at this point so the brushing might help.  Then probably to bed early to forget about the hunger!  I'll be fine in a couple of days when I "detox".

We should definitely share South Beach tips and recipes!!!!  Good luck with Phase 1

Geez you guys are making me want to join you on your South Beach kick. :) Seriously, I'm with you.  I hate feeling like I'm doing a good job, but the numbers aren't showing it.  Then I look back and see "Well... you're not moving your ass, you're grazing during the day, and you're not getting in enough protein...".  It's so frustrating.  Uuughh.

Every day is a new step Janina and if I can be honest with myself that is more than I've done in the past.  We are only accountable to ourselves in the end.  If we choose to sneak it or eat more than we are supposed to, who are we hurting?  Only ourselves. I think that the more self-aware we are, the more we are likely to succeed in the end!

Hi Donna, Since you started the rant, I guess I can jump in with mine as well.  This past week has had to be the worst one in a long while!!!  I have really been doing great with my eating plan....keeping it between 1200-1500 calories per day.  I have also incorparated walking back into my game plan!  I am trying to give up cigerettes......SO every time I want a smoke I'll get up and walk instead, and that's usually a lot of walks during a day's time. I've noticed that the clothes that I wear to work are getting extremely loose on me, some I don't have to unfasten to take off, and one pair I thought I might lose last week...LOL!  Wouldn't that have been embarrassing? Then Wednesday, (I've been staying off the scales) I go the my monthly weigh in at the doctor's office.  I LOST .8 lb.  WTH?  It doesn't make sense!  I know, I know you can lose inches without the scale nessecarily reflecting that, but damn it....that's how I measure success...that one freakin' number and it ain't moving..... OKAY, I'm done now....I just needed to vent and smoke!   Smoking

The only REAL measure worth noting is how you feel, Angela. And of course, remember that muscle weighs more than fat, mmkay? Keep up the good work!

Oh no you did not!!!!! Shari!!!!  Muscle doesn't weigh more than fat!!!  A pound is a pound is a pound.  A pound of feathers doesn't weigh less than a pound of bricks. Muscle is more dense and takes up less space per inch than fat does, thereby giving us that leaner look.  When we are building muscle our weight loss tends to slow down as the fat is transformed into muscle.  In the end it all weighs the same.  A pound of muscle is far more effective in fat loss than a pound of fat, but they both weigh the same. I'll blame it on the meds for you!!!
