Wraping up 1 week of calorie counting
Here is how it went.. Interesting isn't it.. MAeks me wonder how many calories I was really taking in before I started counting them. Looking forward to weighing in this Friday, cause I started the Richard Simmons workout.

Every day the calories kept going down...Until yesterday, but, I was still low for the day
Counting Calories for home cooked foods is difficult, but I have created a spreadsheet to simplify things, and when I repeat a recipe, it makes it easier to just grab the info, as opposed to having to do all the math.
I am feeling accomplished, and looking forward to seeing my new doctor next week. I am curious to see where my cholesterol comes in, and to get feedback from the doctor on my calorie counter system.
Can't wait to weigh in on Friday... WOO HOO

Counting the calories for any meal the first time is difficult, but what I found works for me is to figure out the calories for the entire dish and then divide that number by my portion size. For example, if I make a casserole, find the calories for each ingredient and total them. If you make four portions out of that, divide the total by 4. Then, just remember that number (and since you're logging your calories you have a record of it anyway) and you're good to go. I use the internet to find the calories numbers I need if they aren't in the little reference book I have.
It all gets easier the longer you do it, since you have a record of what you eat and the calories involved. The most difficult time I had with it was when I went on a trip to my parents house and had to figure out all new calorie numbers since they eat different things!
I'm too damn lazy to make a spreadsheet-- I sit down and log it all in FitDay.com.
I also calculate whole meals and divide by servings, as Bert does.
Right now though, I'm doing it on paper-- for the next week, I'm only counting protein. Yesterday I got in 89 grams (I have to be over 80) with liquid only--- man, talk about a challenge!
