1.  How do you define being in shape? 2.  When was the last time you were that definition?

Hi Neecee, 1.  I define being in shape as feeling strong (physically and mentally) with lots of energy.   I know that I am far more in shape now after losing weight and working out because I don't fall asleep at the wheel anymore!! Ain't that a good thing???

2.  I feel it now, I don't really know that I truly ever felt it before this.

1. Damn! That's kind of a hard one. I guess I'd say being fit means having a lot of energy and feeling strong. Being fit means your body is ALWAYS working FOR you and never against you. 2. Maybe 2-3 years ago I felt fit for the first time in my life, but I almost don't want to give myself the credit A) because I don't want to have to think about gaining the weight back and B) I'm not sure I was, given that my approach to weight loss was so frantic, and I never saw what I was doing in the gym as enough. I guess that means I think overall fitness involves a sense of peace with yourself, too. The good news is, I am STARTING to feel fit now after a few weeks of training, and I can really see myself proclaiming that I am FIT for the first real time in my life...in another few months, as my endurance gets better.

Hi Neecee, For me I think being in shape means feeling strong and being in control of my choices.  Being able to walk, work, do errands, etc. without wearing out.  Having energy and feeling good about myself.  It is as much a mental thing for me as it is physical. The last time I felt that way was about a year or so ago.

I've not ever been in shape, but pre-surgery I was closer than I have ever been, even as a child. For me it's not a size or a weight, but a freedom to move my body the way I move in my mind-- with strength, grace and agility. I was gettin' there! Cannot WAIT to get back in the pool!

1. Being in shape to me, means being strong, being able to do active things comfortably. Playing sports, being able to run long distances, feeling good. 2. My junior year in high school, about 4 years ago.

1. I completely agree with Christa's statement. That how I define it.  2. I haven't been 'fit' or in-shape ever in my life. However, the most fit I've ever been was in middle school where I played a lot of sports and could ALMOST run a mile!

Post Date: 7/22/07 4:50 pm 1.  How do you define being in shape? From a physical standpoint, being able to lift yourself/support your own weight. I know folks that  can propel themselves over fences like its nothing..There are more examples I could give (monkeybars, being able to flip yourself). Yeah, these sound simple, but I remember not being able to them as a kid because I was too big and couldn't support my weight! 2.  When was the last time you were that definition? Err.. Never.

Being in good shape to me means being fit and healthy.  A person who is fit and healthy maintains a healthy diet most of the time and also exercises regularly.  A person who is out of breath walking up and flight or two of stairs is not fit and healthy to me.  So, having lots of energy, stamina and endurance are good indicators of someone who is fit and healthy.  Not being overweight is not a good indicator of a person who is in shape.  You can be very thin and be in terrible shape.  Just as a person can be heavier than most find ideal, but still be in very good shape.  Having a healthy body fat percentage is also a good indicator for me of a person who is fit.  A healthy body fat percentage is a much better indicator of a person’s overall fitness level than the scale.   It has been longer than I care to remember since I’ve been fit and healthy.

1) I think being able to fit into the average range of exercise and weight capacity you're supposed to for your age.  2) Never.  Sad...
