Also known as the "Pre-Op Wrap Up." It's Friday-- day two of the monthly crisis named TOM. I am at 304 pounds even, and holding gallons of water in every limb. This means I will probably not hit that 300 goal, which was looking good-- but you can't change the cycle, so it is what it is. I know for sure that I did everything a person can do without desperate measures, so I will live with whatever I get. The good news department: I'm down a solid 64 pounds-- all of my own doing. I ate reasonably, exercised daily (even when in excrutiating pain.) Today at the gym I walked the 24 steps to the second floor for the first time, and it was effortless. I can swim an hour, walk a mile, bike 15 minutes. In January, I could get into my house from my car, barely. I'll take it. I can shop, swim, walk, dance, get things done, clean, and breathe. My CPAP mask was supposed to be replaced in May-- it's gotten all screwed up, but I still haven't killed anyone with my car, so I am breathing better. I just went to the grocery store and piled 35 5-pound bags of sugar in my cart. The cart was hard to even push. I can't imagine how I ever walked at all. Seems impossible. My black swimsuit was a 5X-- and has since been replaced by a 3X that's getting a liitle loose. My shoes are too big. My rings spin around my fingers so I had to retire them. At the moment I am wearing a cheap pair of shorts in a size 28. In January, I wore a 36-38. I guess I can safely call it progress. I last wore this size in 1993. Tomorrow I will post the two month photos, (probably still early in the AM and sans-makeup just to be fair) and you can decide if you can see the changes. Until then-- I am off to-- you guessed it--- more liquids, packing, and trying not to think about the elephant under the living room rug.

Oh Shari I am so proud of you.  I know you will lose a lot of weight fast once you have the surgery, but it must feel so good to have lost so much weight on your own and to be able to experience so many positive changes in your life.  I know I shouldn't say it or probably even feel it but I wish that you didn't have to have WLS because I feel certain that you could lose the rest on your own.  But, I'll not mention that again, I'm just happy and excited for you.

Tali, thanks--- I know I could do it on my own as well. I also know I can't afford the regain. But hey-- didn't I go over dat a gabilliondy times? And the part where I don't necessarily have the years it'd take to do what needs doing? Yeah-- I did! Choice is already made, Tal. I'm going to do the best I can and make the best I can out of it. And if I have complications or croak, well hell, I did it in pursuit of my own good health, and that's honorable enough for me.

I wouldn't be so sure that you won't hit the 300 pound mark.  Water retention at that TOM can go really quickly when it decides to go.  As I recall a month or two ago when you were frustrated with the same situation it only took a couple of days to "resolve" itself.  Will they weigh you at the hospital on Monday morning?  If it was me I would ask them to just to give yourself credit for the whole amount you lost pre-op.

True enough, B., but I have to put the notion to rest, kinda. I should lose a few, but who the hell knows? My regular scale is at my gym, and the last time I will see it is Sunday AM. Monday's weigh in will be a few pounds higher on the hospital scale-- they don't let me get as nekkid.

Good luck Shari. I'm no doctor, but the way you have been treating yourself (very well) makes me suspect you'll have a speedy recovery. I'll be looking forward to hearing how it went, but I might have to skip over any gorey details! XO
