Crazy past 2 weeks for me!

Greetings folks.  Two Thursday's ago, I hurt my knee.. I went to the doc and they told me I have a meniscus tear, and it needed surgery to clean it up. I will be off my feet for 2 to 3 weeks.. maybe more depending on what is done during surgery to repair the knee. SOOO no heavy exercise for me. I'm going to try to do 1.5 to 2 miles 3 days out of the week before my surgery. My weightloss has slowed down (1.1 lbs last week), so I will be reducing my carb intake over the next month!   I still need to salvage what I have left in my knee for work. Lately I've been walking like I was afflicted by polio. It's hard to get around at work, downtown, and through traffic with a bad knee! Also that same Thursday, I merely passed out at work. The doctor believes it was a combination of knee pain and hypoglycemia. I told her I ate twice that night before going to bed to make sure I didn't wake up vomiting. I felt fine that morning when I woke up. I had blurred vision, extremely sensitive hearing, and was drenched in sweat.  Something was definitely wrong though, because my blood pressure was 110/82. Which is abnormal for me... very! I haven't had any more episodes since then.. that was the first time something like that happened to me. I have surgery scheduled on the 19th of this month, and I am ready for this to pass. I feel like time is being wasted when I don't walk. The weekends have become kinda boring too. I noticed myself going back and forth to the fridge this past weekend.. Luckily nothing is in there. Unbelieveable how those bad habits are suppressed, and come back in a split second.  Also this past week my digital scale died.. I'm going to try not to buy another one... I do have an obsession with it. We'll see how that goes!

Wow! You have had a bad couple of weeks. I'm so sorry you're in pain and having a hard time getting around. I hope the surgery goes well. Have you thought about swimming? That's low impact and will help lighten the load on your knee. I have knee problems as well and when it flairs up, I go in the pool. Best of luck!

Heather, the pool sounds nice right now, I was a poster child for ear infections. I had them constantly as a child, and if I get a drop of water in my ears today, my ear drum will throb within hours. Of course there are earplugs, but for now I'm going to stay dry until I get this leg in check. I'll be interested in swimming once I drop another 30 lbs... Seksi body hopefully!

Hi Bud, Sorry to hear that you're having some problems.  I tore my meniscus about 5 years ago and had to have surgery to repair the tear.  You have my sympathies cuz I know how painful it is. I'm a little confused about something you wrote.  What did you mean by "...I ate twice that night before going to bed to make sure I didn't wake up vomiting."

Yes, old habits do come back very easily.  Good thing not to have anything tempting at home.  Take care of yourself.

Tali: If you don't eat enough after exercising, your body will experience post-exercise hypoglycemia (headache, severe fatigue, vomiting). This happens to me sparingly. I try to hedge it by eating before exercising, and can usually catch it if I have a slight headache when I go to bed (after exercising of course). I'll eat something before laying down. That night I ate immediately after exercising, then I ate some more just to make sure I had enough energy to get through the night. First time I got it, I thought I was dying.. not fun at all.   Check this article out:  http://health.usnews.com/usnews/health/diabetes/type2/diab2. manage.exer.lowsugar.htm

Oh I see.  Well, I've never had that problem, probably because the exercise that I do doesn't qualify as "intense".

Bud- So sorry to hear about your bad luck! I saw a story just yesterday about a guy with the same symptoms-- turned out he had a tumor that was screwing up his metabolism, causing severe hypoglycemia even just after he'd eaten-- make sure you stay under medical treatment and feel better soon!

I hope so too! I went and saw my PCP today and I get labs every month... so far I am healthy from numbers and observation. Someone suggested an EKG.. I don't know if that is necessary though. It so scary when talking about health.. just to discover something is awful!

Hey Bud, I'm sorry you're having such a rough week.  Your BP at 110/82 is still in a healthy range, though, so I'm not sure why you were so worried about that. Try to keep positive.  So you take a break from your diet while you're resting your knee - you'll jump right back on the wagon as soon as you can jump again. Best of luck to you and I hope you feel better soon.

Janina, my BP is usually 130-135/80-85.. So that 110 was weird!.. My BP is unpredictable.. it's generally always in the 130s.. Last year it was like 145/95! The nurse suggested I may have "White coat syndrome".
