1st week with Alli...

I must say how proud I am of myself for eating on a more regular basis this last week. For the last week I've been taking Alli and have had NO TE's (treatment effects) which are caused by eating more than the recommended fat gms per meal. I've been eating 3 meals a day with 2 snacks and now that my metabolism is racing, I'm starving! :) I'm trying to find high protein snacks that will keep me full...I tried the Luna bars and hated them....yuck.

I started at 323.3 and I'm down to 314.7. My goals for next week include increasing my cardio and making sure I drink at least 64 oz of water daily. How is everyone else doing??

Hey Aimee, I am on Alli as well, and I post on here once a week with an update. I started it 2 weeks ago, and I am down 5.5 pounds. My goal this week is to incorporate exercise into my routine and aim at loosing 3 pounds. With regard to the treatment affects, the only thing I am experiencing is the oil when you go potty. That is the fat being drawn out, of your body, so it's not a big deal. I actually look forward to seeing it come out as opposed to staying in.. LOL... You have lost quite a bit in 1 week, but don't be surprised if you don't loose next weigh in, unless you pick up the exercise this week. As far as snacks go....I use things like raw, unsalted nuts, turkey jerky, low fat cheese stick, or banana nut bread that I bake at home using whole wheat, and flax seeds. If you want the recipe, let me know... Good luck.....

I'd love any recipes that you'd like to share. You can even email them to me at: john2596@msu.edu  Is the turkey jerky good? Where do you buy it?

Hi Aimee, Please keep us updated on your progress with Allie.  Glad you're doing so well.  My only advice is don't let yourself experience hunger cuz that can be the kiss of death.  Eat more often if you need to.  Have you tried the South Beach cereal bars?  I heard that those are good.  If you're going to increase your cardio when you're already experiencing hunger, you definitely need to increase the calories.  Good luck!!

So, how long do you stay on Alli and what happens when you come off it?  I have always been afraid to take any kind of diet pills because "If-I-lose-weight-taking-these-pills-will-it-all-come-back-when-I-stop?" thinking.

I think the biggest thing that Alli does is that it blocks 25% of the ingested fat. Initially, they wanted me to be on an 1800 cal diet with at least 19 gm of fat at each meal..I just can't eat that much fat and I don't want the treatment effects. The more fat you eat (over your limit) the higher the chance of treatment effects.  You can stay on it for an indefinite period of time. The pill acts like a reminder...."you can't be eating all that fat, aimee" and so far, it's working for me. I eat when I'm hungry, and if I go over 1200 cals a day, so what. I'm keeping my fat intake down, eating more foods according to the US Food pyramid and I'm feeling pretty good. Each day, I go to myalli.com and log in what I've ate for the day and it calculates all of my vitamin requirements, fat grams, calories, cals from fat, carbs, etc. This helps me see what I need to improve for the next day. :) Aimee

The two of you who are taking Alli are doing great. I want to take that diet pill but I am scared of it. Like really scared. I mean I have tried almost ALL diet pills out there this one I'm just not too thrilled about the side effects. I mean you two haven't had any but still my luck...it would happen to me! lol. I might try it...it might MAKE me not eat so much fat because I would be too scared too! lol.

well that's exactly how its supposed to work. it scares you into compliance. you're too scared to eat badly, so you eat well and lose weight. tada! like anything else, you get used to how your body responds and can anticipate it. the only times i've had bad treatment effects with xenical is when i obvioulsy ate horribly - like thanksgiving dinner, birthday dinner with cake etc. and of course you will only have those effects if you take the pill.

Ok..ok.. I have come to the conclusion....but I want a couple answers first. How many pills a day? Three? Before meals...during...after? Which is best? Even though I will probably get all the answers when I buy it when I read the pamphlet but I still want to hear it from you two that have been taking it...are they huge pills like normal diet pills. Do they have a funny after taste? Because the diet pills that I have now that I never remember to take have a bad taste. Which I need to like tattoo "Christa take your diet pill" on my hand because I always forget! But still I think I am going to do this and give it a shot.....hmm.....

they are not like any random diet pill made from herbs and other unknown compounds. they are like a prescrition that you no longer need a prescription for. they are small normal size pills. like capsules that if you break open that has like powder inside. no aftertaste.  you are supposed to take it with any meal where you have >10 or so grams of fat up to 3 times a day. they recommend 15 fat grams per meal. if you eat a fat free meal, there is no reason to take it but it won't hurt you if you do (just waste money). the starter pack has a whole bunch of info it that will explain it all. they say you can take it before, during or after the meal (i think within 30 minutes). it comes with this little container things that holds 3 pills in it that you can keep with you in your purse of whatever, but yes, you do have to remember to take it.
