Hello, my name is Amber.  I am pretty new here and was wondering if I could get some suggestions and advice.  I have about 90 lbs. to lose and dont know what kind of diet to go on.  I have medi-cal and it is really hard to find a doctor accepting medi-cal.  I do not like my doctor and she is no help to me at all so I am turning to this site.  If anyone has a diet that they are on or have been on, and has been successful, please let me know.  I have lost 30lbs. in the past, but unfortunately, put in back on double.  I am feeling like it is hopeless right now.  I know it isnt, but that is how I am feeling.  This is just so hard.  I appreciate everyone who is going to respond and hope to get to know everyone more!

Hi Amber,

I agree with Delilah, why don't you try Weigh****chers.  They have one of the best if not the best longstanding reputation of any of the weight loss programs.  They will teach you how and what to eat.  They are located everywhere, just check their website for the location nearest you.  If you don't want to go to the group meetings you can even join the on-line program.  You can lose weight and keep it off without WLS many people in the Non-Surgical group have done it.  Please feel free to join us at any time.  Quite a few of us are about the embark on a 6-month weight loss challenge and you are invited to participate in that.  We are also available to discuss issues or just chat.  Hope to see you back here often.

Welcome Amber!  I'm fairly new here also, am still supportive of my other forum (the VSG), but have decided to take the focus off WLS for the summer, and try a "healthy eating plan".  Iam doing the "Lose it for Life" program from "New Life Ministries".  I bought the set of the main book, a journal, and a workbook.  I've been looking at WLS for almost a year, got the funding, and just felt like I needed to take the time out to deal with my food issues before surgery. From what I see all over different forums, people continue to battle with "food related issues" during and after any of the WLS.   So, if you have WLS or not, this is a good place to get healthier!  Treadmill

First of all, I suggest that you try going to a meeting of Overeaters Anonymous.  It is a spiritual support group based on the same twelve steps as Alcoholics Anonymous.  Then I suggest you contact my family doctor, Dr. Pamela Hilton, and ask her for her diabetic diet.  I've lost 15 pounds on it, and it really works, if you follow the 1600 or 1400 calorie part on it.  Her phone number is 216/749-8277.

yes, doctors tend to be very little help on obesity issues. It's all us, baby! Side note...did you know that most MD's rarely have more than a couple classes about nutrition???? They can be about as lost as we are.  Go to the USDA website and read about balanced meals. The portions iszes are the big lesson, so teach yourself about what a half cup of rice/pasta looks like in YOUR bowls & plates. You will feel better, more satiated when you are eating more fruits and veggies.  Most people do not, and then wonder why they fight cravings alla time. It's pretty amazing. As we all say 'round here...your tastes for crappy food will change after you practice balance in your meals. Hope to see you every day!

Thank all of you for your input.  All of it is a great help.  The encouragement is what I needed also.  Thank you again and I hope to get to know all of you!

The best advice I've seen on the boards is to keep track of what you eat on Sparkpeople or Fitday.com.  It is certainly amazing how much I was eating before.  This is my 9th week on WW.  and I have lost 8.8 lbs.   Just whatever diet you decide keep track of it and loose more.  God Bless You

I believe we can all relate to you. We've all been where you are, are there with you or will be there at some point.  For me, I'm kinda there with you right now.  I feel like I can't get a handle on my overeating problem.  I did great for so long but just really screwed things up lately.  This isn't the end though. I know I'll get through this.  We're all here for you, you just post your little heart out and we'll help the best way we know how! I'm guessing from your user name you're a Christian.  You might find comfort in Overeater's Anonymous.  It teaches you to control your overeating by tapping into your higher power, or God.  I've never tried it but many people have great success with it. They can also teach you about proper nutrition.  If the spritual thing is a little much for you then there is also TOPS. I attend or did attend a local TOPS chapter here. I've fallen off my horse latey and haven't started going back to the meetings yet but they were great!  As for your diet, I would recommend the same as many others already have, Weigh****chers. It's a great program and I have seen many people have great results with it.  That's my two cents or so worth. :)
