Back to this again! Mmmkay. In the same time period, SigOt has gone from 379 to 340 (39 lbs.)---I have gone from 368 to 310 (58 pounds.) He exercised less than I do originally, but he exercises harder than I do now-- about 400 cals worth a day. His total daily caloric needs are about 4400. Mine are about 3125. He eats about 1600 cals a day. I eat about 1300. Should he actually eat more? He gets all the necessary nutrition and protein. Ideas?

Well, this is my very unprofessional opinion.  He's a man and a big man.  He's eating 1600 and burning off about 400 of that.  I would say that he's eating way too few calories.  Why not try bumping him up to 2000 cals and see how that goes?

I know he's gonna put up a fight, but I may tell him that. I'll ask our nutritionist too.

One other thing I forgot Shari.  Why don't you have his RMR (resting metabolic rate) tested, then he won't have to guess how many calories he should be consuming.  Here's an article on the subject, but there's a ton of info about it on the web: http://diet.ivillage.com/measure/0,,8bgm13xl,00.html

Around here, the only people who can do this cheaply (okay, free!) are our local colleges' Kinesthesiolgy programs and they are closed for the summer. Maybe in the Fall...but until then, we need a plan!

Hi Shari, maybe he could just do one appt. with a nutritionist? Get a idea of where he should be. Just from what you say, it looks too low for a male.  There must be some charts on the web you can check?

He went to the same nutritionist that I do, and she approved of his plan.

well, i don't KNOW of course, but per usual i back my bigass in here somewhere.  I'd say he can eat more if he wants to. Personally, I would eat more and scale down as i lose.  Geez, isn't this hard enough without putting even stricter bands on ourselves?  If I recall, you had said that one reason he might have not have lost so fast was cuz he tends to relax more often than you do.  To me, that points again to eating more on a daily basis. He must be feeling too restricted.  It's why many people snap and fold like a card table...that is too hard eating too little alla time.

Nah-- he *wasn't* exercising as much, but now he exercises more than I do (he got the recumbent bike, that bastid!) He says he occasionally feels hungry, but it's usually only when he's bored. We're gonna try upping the protein a little and easing up on el carbohydratitos.
