Tali's Journey - Day 18

All is continuing to go well even though for the last few days I’ve been craving fried chicken wings and hot sauce.  I can’t shake the craving so I’m going to indulge it on Saturday.  I have designated Saturday as my day to go a little off course with my meals and snacks.  So, any craving that I have during the week I’ll satisfy on Saturday if I still have it.  Other than that I have nothing of note to report.

I just had an apple for a snack and was struck by how good the apple was.  I had a plum this morning with my breakfast and it always was quite good.  I've always liked fruit but now I seem to be getting more enjoyment out of it than ever before.  Wouldn't it be great if fruit took on the same deliciousness for me that ice cream, cake, candy and cookies do.  Wouldn't it be even better if I started to enjoy fruit as much or more than the aforementioned sweets.  Oh to dream.......

Oh Tali,  it will happen.  Just wait this is only the beginning for you!  I'm not saying you won't enjoy or crave a piece of cake, a candy bar, etc. BUT, food takes on a whole new taste and desire level.  And, when you eat those other foods, you won't want so much of them and they actually make you feel gross if you eat more than you should!  I thought it would never happen, but it did!  I soooo love salads, fruits and veggies now!  Yeah for you, it's a nice feeling, isn't it!

Katy -- I know you're right.  I believe that taste buds can and do change if you give them half a chance.  It takes awhile to develop the habit of eating high fat, high calorie foods.  And, just as you can learn to like and crave the bad,  you can train yourself to like and crave the good.  It just takes some determination, time and patience -- I have all of those.

have you tried the buffalo wings made by morningstar farms? they are pretty good. they also have chik patties, chik nuggets etc that are good substitute. you can also make oven fried chicken by coating a breast in fat free yogurt and covering with corn flake crumbs. i would definitely allow yourself to indulge a little on saturday, but i would still monitor it and plan it in. awareness is important and even fried chicken can have a place in a healthy balenced meal plan. sometimes just perusing the nutritionals on the KFC or Popeye's website might make you think twice about eating it....that usually makes my cravings go right out the window!

Andy -- I won't be having either Popeyes or KFC, but I'm sure the wings I have in mind are just as nutritionally challenged.  But despite that, I'm going to enjoy each and every bite and then be done with it.  I've learned from experience that depriving myself of something that I really want has a tendency to backfire on me.

oh no, i wasn't saying you shouldn't have it. deprivation is no good and puts you right back into the diet mentality. i was just saying that it is possible to incorporate whatever you want into your eating plan without "going off" for the entire day or whatever. and the morningstar stuff is just stuff i like to eat than resembles battered chicken...sorry if i offended.

Andy, I wasn't the least bit offended.

I ate a peach today that was so delicious.  I swear it was better than a cookie.  It was sweet and juicy and oh so good.  I'm really hungry right now and I'm drinking fluids to take away that urge to eat.  I am so used to feeling full all the time that when I feel hungry I actually get a panicky feeling.  I made this sugar free drink mix today by KLASS.  Pear flavor.  It is actually really good.  It tastes just like your drinking the juice out of the bottom of  a can of pears in heavy syrup.  Have a wing or two for me on Saturday will ya.  I like it hot enough to burn my lips a little bit.

Okay Mamanay, you've got a wing with your name on it.  I like them really hot too.
