5 day weigh in
I am down 2 pounds, and I am happy with that, because it's healthy. 2 pounds doesn't seem like much, but 2 pounds a week after 1 month is 8 pounds, and in 3 months thats 24 pounds, which puts me at a healthier weight to get preggers, and encourages me to loose more quite frankly, before I get preggers.
To be honest, I did not exercise 1 single day of those 5 days. I think the exercise will accelerate the process, so maybe next Saturday I will have a little bit more of a loss.
I think I am going to start off my morning right by exercising before I eat breakfast.
Keep me in your thoughts everyone.... Thanks

technically and physiologically, your body can only burn 2 lbs of fat a week maximum. anything more than that is water and muscle, which you don't want to lose. so 1 - 2 lbs is perfect, sustainble weight loss. exercise may help with the weight loss, but will also help you maintain muscle and is just a healthy habit to get into, especially when you are first starting out. good job!

Will you tell me where you read this? I've heard this as a rule of thumb, but not as a standard.
i have read a number of scientific research articles concerned the physiology of weight loss - i just tried to look a few up in the academic database i have access to but when i copied the link, it won't let you in if you are not a subscriber. gotta go out to the NIH medical library. ugg.
however, more than the articles, i believe it mainly because i have had many long conversations with a number of different doctors, exercise physiologists and nutritionists that i have worked closely with at duke who have a lot of real world experience in the field. i also believe them because it make sense biologically and mathematically if you really think about it. thats my story, and i'm sticking to it. :)
regardless, nearly any reputable information you read about weight loss will agree that slow 1 - 2 lb a week weight loss is best for long term success insofar as maintenance of loss, dealing with skin laxity, psychological adjustment etc.

I concur on the 1 to 2lbs week as a rule of thumb.. anything out of that would probably require effort that is unrealistic in the long term with diet and exercise only.
yes. isn't it something like 60% of our body is water?
you cannot build muscle while on a reduced calorie diet. you can only hope to maintain. i regularly had my body fat testing with the underwater weighing (the most preise body fat test available) when i was in weight loss mode. even with working out everyday and doing 3 days a week of all out 1 hour strength training with a good trainer, i still lost muscle mass. it takes a lot less muscle to carry around a 170 lb body that it does to carry a 300 lb body.
it is confusing. again, thats where the whole "we don't know the whole story" thing comes into play.
