Appointment with Dr. postponed

Well this morning I was supposed to have my yearly exam with my dr.  After the exam, I was going to talk to her about weight loss and possible WLS.  Anyway, a little bummed because she had to cancel.  My head started saying, jeez why not have something yummy and bad for you.  All because I was a little disappointed and depressed with not getting to really talk about these issues and get this process started.  Luckily I snapped out of it and gave myself a firm talking to.  I said that this next two weeks is really a gift from God to work on my healthy eating plan and exercise.  This way I can go in showing my dr. I am committed to getting healthy.  Thank goodness all this talking was done just in my head.  Would hate for people to see me chatting with myself and worry I've gone over the edge. I did set up an appointment to discuss just the weight loss and possible WLS, so I'll be seeing her in two weeks time.  Since she knows all my medical history and has the extensive history of my mom and part of my sisters, I think she can really give me honest feedback on what should be my next steps. You know I've finally had that discussion many people have to have with themselves about how they feel and want to live.  My weight is too much for my frame to handle.  I mean jeez, just a month ago I was 376 and I'm only 5'2" (possibly only 5'1") tall.  You know for me I used to be against WLS for myself, even up to 1-1/2 years ago.  Last year I thought about it briefly, but put it in the back of my mind.  With the deep pain I've been having in my hip on and off lately, plus numerous problems with my knee (and on top of other weight related problems), I can finally admit I do need help.  I've been doing research on various WLS so I know all the risks/complications if I decide to go that route.  I guess until I really talk to my doctor and then go farther, I won't have a definite yes or no.  What I do know is that something has to change.  So until I have a definite yes or no on WLS I will continue to work on my healthy eating plan and exercise.

Yes that little girl is mine.  I actually took her in 2 years ago from my cousin who was very sick.  Mitzi, my cute cat, is a Persain Manx mix.  She's such a laid back funny cat.  She has a short stubby tail and what I refer to as "thumbs" (an extra toe on each of her front feet).   I'm sorry to hear your sister lost her cat.  To me, my cats are a part of the family.  I hope she gets a chuckle out of my little pumpkin as my DB and I call her at times.

Melinda -- I think you're making some wise decisions.   You know you have a problem and you have taken the time to do some research to inform yourself, soon you'll meet with your PCP to discuss all of your options, while in the meantime adopting a healthy lifestyle to start to prepare yourself for whatever route you end up taking.  Good for you!

Melinda, you're doing the right thing by working on your weight before the possible surgery.  You sound dedicated.  Good for you, chicky!
