Hi Neecee, I talked earlier this week about going back on basically what translates to Phase 1 of South Beach Diet.  You had said to let you know if it worked.  Welllllllllllllll, it did!!!  On Monday I weighed in at 237.  On May 3 at the beginning of the challenge I had weighed in and lost 2 pounds, but promptly gained them back.  I didn't report it because I was ashamed    So on Monday I started and this morning I stepped on the scale and it read 228.4!!!!!!!!  I am ecstatic.  I don't mean to gloat, so please forgive me, but it really DOES work. I had been up to 247 about 1 1/2 weeks after my LBL.  I was devastated.  The scale gradually eked down to 237 when the water disappeared but that still wasn't good enough.  My lowest was 215 and at 237 I was 22 pounds heavier than my lowest.  That's NOT good.  I stayed at 237 for a while, scale NOT budging.  Not that I was trying too hard of course, but without exercising and no****ching what I ate closely, it stayed there. It IS possible to continue to lose.  I thought it was over for me.  I'm glad it's not.  In the 4 days I actually "re-broke" those carb cravings as well.  I'm back to craving cheese sticks, how sick is that?  And I'm looking forward to going back to the gym now that I am 8 1/2 weeks out from surgery.  I was dreading going back when the scale was saying nasty things.  How silly that all these things are in our heads.

It's a worry of mine-- I have a nice exercise habit going now-- will surgery screw that up? I'm glad to know you can get  back on the horse, so to speak...and glad things are working for you!

Hi Shari, Yes, my Plastic Surgery halted my exercise for now what is going on 9 weeks.  There is a lot of internal stitching that goes on that needs to heal before I am lifting or exercising heavily again.  Even doing cardio makes the tissues swell and swelling is a beast after PS. I am thinking you are talking WLS?  I know with WLS there isn't that long period where they have to stop exercising.  Well, truth be told, most people who are at the point where they need WLS aren't doing much exercising.  Like you I would exercise even at 350 pounds, so I think we are not the norm!!!  I think it all depends on the surgeon and of course whether you are able to have LAP or if you have to have open surgery.   I am glad I am back on track and that' it's possible as well!! Thank you!

Wasn't specifically talking WLS, since I will be having a boatload of plastics too-- but yeah, I do plan to have the RNY (Lap, thank Jeebis!) and would like to be back in the pool soon after!

I figure maybe I will be able to do some water walking soon enough, anyway. I'm gonna miss this board. I *really* don't dig the regular post-op boards...

I thought you were talking the imminent future.  But yeah, most surgeries will sideline you for a little bit. But if you are talking water stuff, then it's probably easier to go back a little faster then the regimen I was on with the lifting and 60 minutes on the elliptical.   Who says you have to leave????  I was on the RnY board and didn't have the surgery.  They didn't always listen to me, LOL, but I was there.

That is utterly cool! My bod is the same way.  I am not technically doing SB diet, but it is close enuf, as i say, I know now that up on protein and only good grain carbs in the right amounts (which is NOT very much) works for me too. It is truly amazing how our bodies fight us to get back to what it deems homeostasis.  I know there is lots of debate about setpoints, but I know for me, there are sets of stages of scale activity, for me, 215, 200, 185, that plateau out for me. I have to really perservere to break those stages.  Anyway, GOOD FOR YOU!  Makes my Friday!

Thanks Neecee I didn't want it to appear that I was gloating but to get control again is priceless for me.  I'm loving this.  I truly see the light at the end of the tunnel now and I know that I can get below the 215 that I was at for a long while. I haven't tried the whole grains back in yet, I'm going to do this for as long as physically possible.  I will add back my whole wheat bread with my morning eggs, and perhaps my weight control oatmeal maybe in the next few weeks.  I think I will leave out the carbs at night, they just tend to make me spike, even if they are completely whole wheat or whole grain.  I am going to ride this wave until it dumps me!!! LOL

I think what I hear you say is...this way of eating is not all that uncomfortable, right?  At my old age, I am finally realizing if I feel like I am working *that* hard and feeling too hungry too often, this deal will last another, oh....twenty minutes outside! I'm glad to see that old spark in you that draws me to U!
