Back in the game
I have decided to find a different doctor and try again. I have seriously considering bariatric surgery, but it costs too much and frankly...it scares me! The gastric bypass is too drastic. The lap-band isn't ALWAYS effective. I have seen horror stories and miracles. Anyway, so I have been trying to go to the gym to get my health back in check, but its always the same vicious cycle. I will watch everything that I put in my mouth and go to the gym, but see MINIMAL...if any...results. My husband is supportive, but it always leads us to the same path: He loses a ton of wt and I'm there stuck in my rut and get discouraged. Don't get me wrong, he stands by my side and tried to motivate me, but its horrid to compare a woman's body to a male's bc of the different body mechanics. So anyway, I saw this new doctor that my coworkers have absolute confidence in. He seemed really nice and he actually sat there for over an hour hearing my full story. He wanted to know where I've had success, where I've failed, what I do for fun, how stressed I am, and pretty much get a full picture. He ordered a TON of blood work and really seemed to care! I have never had a doctor's visit like that. I told him I considered surgery and he pretty much told me that we can fight this together, without going under the knife. Usually docs just tell me I'm too fat, I'm not doing anything right, and I need surgery. So I'm embarking on this new journey. Anyway, I might have a thyroid problem, blood work is pending and my ultrasound wasn't pretty. So maybe that has been my issue all this time.
I need your advice. He put me on Phentramine and Glucophage to rev up my metabolism and help decrease my reuptake of carbs. Have anyone been on it with good success? Its really good for appetite supression and its usually effective for a few months at a time and then you take a break. I hope that I can maintain good eating habits. I'm going to put my energy into this. I need this for myself and to have a healthy pregnancy (not preggers yet, but waiting until I'm in better shape).
Any words of wisdom?
Hi! I've not taken those exact drugs, but last fall I used phendimetrazine 35mg. It did finally budge the scale for me. As you say, it is rather temporary, but still it's good to get a little boost.
What really helped me was the prescribed diet: basically to eat low cal 1200 cal daily, and eat something hi protein low to no fat every two hours. I use bariatric foods (protein powders in coffee, cream soups, fruit drinks) , most usually about 80 caloires and at least 12 g of protein. It fits into my lifestyle very well - a high powered job, up early every weekday, working 9-10 hour days.
I eat "normal" supper, trying to concentrate on veggies, leaner proteins, very little grains.
In summary, the pills helped me cut back to that low of calories and see what it's like. I am eating more like 1400-1500 a day now, still losing, but incredibly slowly. I am realizing I probably need to get back to eating more like 1200-1400.
I recently changed doctors myself. After 14 years stuck in the same ol outdated rut, I decided to break away and start fresh. Actually the ex-doctor prescribed me a cough syrup w/ coedeine when my chart clearly states that I am allergic and have been for at least 20 years. Long story short, this new doctor takes the time to listen to me and has given me great support in losing weight. I know you can do it and we will all be here to lend a hand, a shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen, or whatever you need. Just keep coming back....we need you too!!!
WE CAN DO THIS!!!!
I swear some docs never seem to amaze me! They are so eager to make as much money as possible, they forget the concept of patient care. I can't believe he Rx'ed you a drug u r allergic to! I work in Ultrasound and these docs order Gallbladder ultrasounds when they haven't had a gallbladder in YRS! The term "moron" clearly flashes on their head.
So far so good with my new journey. The only problem I'm having with this drug is the nasuea. If you don't eat in time, your stomach starts to turn and all of a sudden you feel like you will hurl. I have come to realize its from lack of food. I NEVER thought it possible to go thru the day and NOT be hungry enough to eat the whole house. I sometimes have to force myself to finish the plate in front of me bc I know thats the only way I'll feel better. Ironically enough, as I feel most of the side effects, my husband is feeling all the good ones. He is hyper, lost almost 10 lbs already, and claims to feel great. Sometimes I really wish I was built like him, but I remember what it means to be a woman and how that is a gift I cannot let go of!
Happy to report I'm about 2 lbs down. I'm not getting too excited about it bc we all know the bloat and water wt gain we get with our monthly cycle. So only time will tell.
Hopefully everyone keeps fighting the battle! Thanks for the support!
