A Milestone
I walked 1.2 miles last night, the first time for me past a mile since, oh, 2001. I can remember just a couple months ago not even making it a tenth of a mile without having to rest. I used to walk from one dumpster in the parking lot to the next.
Small, incremental, improvement folks. It can be done.
That's my boy! As you know, walking is murder for me too, but yesterday we did a 45 minute walk through a flea market before my back pain overcame me--- used to be I had to stop every 10 stalls or so and rest or lean on something. Back pain yesterday hit just as we were leaving, which is a first, I usually quit early, blinking back tears.
I also tried the recumbent cycle at the gym, and while I couldn't get anywhere near the 140 bpm they were askin' for, I could pedal for a while. This week, I will go in dressed appropriately (I was in my swim suit!) and do it for real.
I try to get in an hour of water running, free weights, walking, swimming, or a combo of the above at least 5x a week. Which beats life in January when I only went to the mailbox weekly-- and it's 20 feet outside my door.
Small incremental changes. They make a difference!
