...before I get home to a healthy snack!! It never fails, I'm out, running around, and thats when it hits me...the HUNGER!!   lol   I need ideas of what i can take with me (doesn't need refrigeration) in case I need an emergency snack. Something with a lot of protien and not so much carbs, cause I've tried those 100 calorie snack packs, and some of those nutritious/low calorie snack bars they have out there, and they just send me running for even more carbs. Something I  HAVE to stay away from. Sooo, I'm asking the experts, solve my snacking situation. Thanks!!    Heather

with you as a sweet nut, maybe buy a bag of chocolate protein powder and keep snack size bags in your car to mix in with a coffee or a bottle of water. Just slug it down.  Do you have a costco or sam's club?  i get that whey protein powder - it is a 7# bag or so...very good tatse.  The vanilla goes good into oj mixed with water (oj has a lot of caloires, too, so go easy) or with non fat milk.

Buy some high quality protein bars and keep those in your purse - look for low carb or at least 10 g protein to 10 g carb - that helps a lot. I hear ya - those 100 cal snacks are just enuf to **** me off. I have found that adding protein into most of my snacks really helps.

two tablespoons of peanut butter has 190 calories. that sounds like a lot but it also packs in A LOT of protein. this can keep you feeling full, plus it tastes good!

I snack on Kashi Go Lean Cereal.  It has 13g of protein per serving.   It does have carbs but a lot of fiber too.  I call it my bird feed.  If you can stop by a store while you are out grab a yogurt or cottage cheese.  Maybe a string cheese. Have you tried edamame.  It's a soybean.  I love them. I will keep a slimfast bar in my purse if I'm going out and I'm not sure if there will be healthy food options for me.  That is a big problem for me too.  I try not to eat bad then I get to hungry and I get a panicky hungry feed me now hunger.  Then of course I lose it.  I turn into Miss Piggy and the cycle starts all over again.  Its a cruel cruel world.  You could always keep some fruit in the car.  An apple or some grapes.  I bought myself a little insulated bag for the road.  I pack water and some fruit.  Even if you don't need it have it available just in case the snack demon**** you.  In the morning refresh your stash and off you go.  Hope this helps.

Try Slimfast bars.  They taste just like a regular candy bar, and they are anywhere from 120 calories (small) to 220 calories (large).  That's what I do if I get really hungry. Denise Phares

Hi Heather, When I leave the house I take a bottle of water, a cheese stick and an apple with me.  Sometimes I bring a protein bar, but not all the time.  Even if the cheese gets a little soft, it's still easy to eat.  The apple is filling and gives your mouth something to do, and the water keeps you full.  You can also roll up some turkey and cheese and put it in a baggie.  As long as you don't let it get hot, it's good to go, plenty of protein.  You can bring a small cooler lunch bag. The first year of my program I brought my own food EVERYWHERE.  I remember a weekend that we went away with 4 other couples.  I brought my own cheese sticks, sugar free pudding and turkey chili.  I even brought nuts that one of the couples found and starting eating.  I was like, hey those are so my nuts, put 'em down!!! LOL Good luck!!

I'm sick of the 100 calorie packs too. They do the same thing to me.   I've started bringing bananas with me.  They're not particularly high in protein though.  They also have about 25-30 carbs which might be a bit high but for some reason they feel heavy on my stomach and seem to satisfy me.  The aftertaste is phenomenal too.  Apples dry my mouth out. Same goes for grapes.  The other thing I like is granola but that doesn't last very long.  I suppose I am kinda in the same situation as you.   This past week has been horrible as far as nutrition goes.  Leaving my job has caused everyone to want to take me out to eat lunch and of course I can't turn them down.  I tried to eat healthy but I lost control.  I always do at sit-down restaurants.  They're a big trigger.   Now I'm finding myself getting addicted again and I've got to break free.  Tomorrow is mother's day so I'm pretty sure we won't be eating out. Perhaps a day away can break the cycle.  By monday I WILL be back on track. I've been stuffed silly for the past 4 days.  Makes me feel like trash, lol!
