Thanks for such a warm and supportive welcome. In my “lurking” phase I saw such a wonderful camaraderie and great support that I knew this was the place for me.
Yes, my cat Mitzi is quite chubby. Not my fault, I took her in when my cousin had to get rid of her cats three years ago. Actually she’s lost a little weight. We make her go downstairs to get to her litter and she even visits me quite a bit on the second floor in my craft room. She is a very sweet and laid back girl.
Neecee, you and Chris have had me laughing quite a bit, as well as, Christa. Such a fun group.
As for my plan, I decided to start slowly and develop better eating and exercise habits. I don’t want to cut everything to what is totally healthy and then fall off the wagon. Been there, done that. My health plan is going to consist of:
Adding fruits and vegetables to my daily meals
Eating three meals a day with low-cal snack as needed
Portion control – actually looking at the serving sizes and starting to follow them
Adding more water daily
Cutting back on my diet pop
Having one “cheat” meal every so often (this way if I am craving pizza I know I can have some and won’t blow my health plan)
I have actually been eating veggies (or trying to) at my lunches and dinners for a week now. I’ve been having fruit every day for a couple of weeks. The portion control is what I’m currently working on. I did good on Sunday only to crash and burn on Monday. Yesterday was a good day…very proud of myself there. More water intake…desperately need to work on. I used to drink 2 liters of water daily (sometimes 3), but got out of the habit. I’ve been working on switching from regular pop to diet on and off for a couple of months and as of Saturday I’m back to diet. As for my cheat meal, I don’t know if it will be once a week or once every couple of weeks. I guess I’m going to have it in place so I know I’m not limited. That way I won’t fall off the wagon and stay off with the thought, “see Melinda you can’t do it so why bother.” I found when I severely restricted myself and got rid of all the yummy options, I would eventually fail. And when I did, boy did I go overboard.
One of my struggles is I also have Sleep Apnea. Before treatment I used food and regular pop as a crutch. I find I fall back into using regular pop (again as a crutch) when I have a bad night and wake up so exhausted I can’t function well. I know it gives me a quick pick-me-up, however, I know it also makes me crash and burn even worse. It’s a vicious cycle. This is something I’m also working on.
As for exercise, I started yesterday morning with parking at the end of my parking lot at work. I did this today also. After work I went shopping at Meijer grocery store and parked farther out than I normally do. Baby steps, but it’s a start. I also have a Leslie Sansone Walking off the Pounds DVD and will begin that this evening again. I really find it gives me a good workout. I’m currently on the 1 mile walk.
My first goal is to work up to the 2 mile walk on the LS DVD within a month.
As you can tell I can be quite the talker. Thanks again for such a warm welcome. I look forward to chatting with everyone. Please feel free to dissect my health plan (not a diet…those I fail on) and give me any tips/hints you think would help me tweak it.
