Weighed In Yesterday

I weighed in yesterday and I am down 9 pounds from last week to 462, 52 pounds total so far (since 3/21).  So to the woman looking to lose 54 before WLS, it can be done ;)  You might find you don't need the surgery. I struggled a little bit last night and this morning with some old cravings.  I haven't done anything completely off the wall yet though.  I started a new job Monday and have been trying to fit my exercise around my new schedule.  Work makes for busy days!

Oh Bert, ya *******! I'm over here feeling like living sh*t on a half-shell! (All because Tuesday's weigh in had a 1 pound gain, despite my working HARDER!) ONE POUND! ONE RAT ******* POUND!  I'm goin' POSTAL! Keep in mind, peeples, Mister Al/Bert has a pretty high BMI, as do I, so the inital pounds go pretty quickly for us. Not that we aren't working like dogs, because we are! Unfortunately, THIS dog is about to croak, but Mr. Al/Bert, heez a feelin' no badness, on accounta he was touched by the hand of grace or some crap. In other news, I did start weight training. And I didn't die, but I did want to.  -S.

Shari is absoultely right, no one should feel bad comparing their weight loss to mine because I have literally an assload more weight to lose than all of you (and I'm a guy I guess, not sure what the scientific basis for that is yet).  Anyway if you're not afraid of a little math, here is the basic reason: weight loss boils down to a very simple equation in the end, if you burn more calories than you take in, you will lose weight.  At my weight, my basal metabolic rate (BMR) is around 3600.  That means, without doing anything, if I do *nothing* during the day, I burn 3600 calories a day.  If I eat a 1500 calorie diet, I burn 2100 calories (3600-1500) calories stored by my body.  In seven days that means I burn 2100 * 7, or 14700 stored calories.  A pound of fat is 3500 calories, so, if I was just sitting on my butt all day, I should expect to lose 14700/3500 = 4.2 pounds.  So, doing nothing at all I can lose 4.2 pounds a week staying on a 1500 calorie diet. The more weight I lose, the lower BMR will become and the harder it will be to lose weight.  Most of you have BMR's much lower than mine (meaning it's *harder* for you to lose weight).  So, I've been somewhat hesitant to post my weight loss at times because I know my results are skewed because of how much I currently weigh, but its still a thrill to be losing at this rate for now.  I can't tell you how much better I feel now versus 6 months ago. As far as what I'm eating, Chris, it's really nothing special.  I eat a ton of fruits and vegetables (a big salad every night is my main disk for dinner and I eat fruit at breakfast and lunch).  I drink only water or tea and I drink alot of both.

It's true what you say but I also think that your diet is helping you as well. The foods you are eating are very healthy and I'm sure they actually aid in the burning of your calories. See I don't eat much fruit at all and I rarely ever eat salads. I just don't like the stuff so instead I substitute less healthy things like 100 calorie granola and cookie type snacks.  Instead of salad I'll have a sandwich with extra veggies to mask the veggie taste, lol.  The things that I eat are just not healthy enough and I know that. I am trying to work on it though.  My fruit intake has increased from what it used to be. I always have bananas or strawberries in the house now. Before it was about once a year that they entered my home.  Still don't care much for apples and salad goes bad as I stare at it each time I open the fridge to grab the tomatoes for the sandwich.. :)    But whatever right, what I am doing is working for now so no need to stress. :)
