Boy I have no idea how I lost 29 lbs pre surgery when I was banded (not banded anymore). I was so into the 100 cal packs and cottage cheese... traded ice cream for italian ice. I am really discouraged, I have no idea how to "diet" anymore, crap! I've gained 8 lbs in 2 weeks, and although some was due to dehydration, I can't/don't want to move an ounce. And I even went shopping yesterday and bought candy... "for the family", yeah, the family that all had a life yesterday and left me home alone with said candy, and a bathroom to tile... need I say how that went? Any good inspirational books, something.... HELP ME PEOPLE!!!
First of all it's NOT a diet it is a change of eating lifestyle. Think positive. I am doing the bariatric way with my DH whom did have surgery. High protein low (no) carbs and no sugar. Lost 8 lbs last week.
Sorry to hear you had to have you tool removed but didn't it come with eating instructions. Go back to basics.
On the VSG message board there are some people that have wonderful recipes. I have picked up a few. I am still new at this EL change so I don't know much but you will find support and love here. We will hold yur hand until the crisis is over.
Godd luck and God Bless

I high proteined and low/no sugared being banded and my sugar dropped low enough to make me feel faint behind the wheel. No even going there, I had to carry juice boxes and dried apricots in my purse, just incase. I know it is discipline, of which I don't have much of right now, I will check out the other board, but I was reading some what did you each over at DS, and everyones eating pudding and candy... LOL, I didn't lose 118# by not following instructions, but I will tell you, portions, before it wasn't a choice, the band decided. I am having trouble with me. thanks.
Deb - can you ask your doctor to prescribe wellbutrin? i'm wondering if this could be depression? You may need some kind of outside intervention - a therapist, a group (WW, TOPS?) to help you be accountable for a while.
Set a food plan each day - good food and snacks, maybe even 2 pieces of candy every day and make yourself stick to it! Of course you know how to choose the best foods for your goal - stop with the diet speak.
Get out 3x a week to move somehow, then graduate to daily at a point. Even 15 minutes. I know you don't want to, but you know as well as anyone how good you will feel esteem-wise, health-wise. Look thru your whinybutt slef and see the benefits!
I have to look around for a cool definition of discipline - which is basically doing what you don't want to do.
C'mon Deb - you can do it. Come here and post your plan. It does help to declare it - chances are you will stick to it. I know what I am eating most days before i leave for work. I stay away from the breakroom foods - unless it is fresh fruit or veggies, it is a slippery slope that I can't play on.
Go DEB!
Hiya Deb,
One of the first things to do is clean that environment. Otherwise, we feel like a martyr when we have to look at it and not eat it. And we feel like crud when we do break down and eat it. It's a lose lose situation. (If you put a 50-serving size birthday cake in front of me, I would eat the entire thing. I simply know I can't have it sitting in my house. My history proves that.)
When I do have to buy junk food for the other 4 people in my family, I try to select types that I don't particularly care for. There are plenty of foods that they still enjoy eating that were never binge triggers for me.
As for book recommendations, one I really enjoyed was that Thin Commandments diet. The majority of it deals with why we overeat psychologically and physiologically. I found a lot of things that rang very true in that book.
What sort of game plan are you trying for yourself? Water? Exercise? Protein/veggies first? Many small meals? We can help more if we know how you're trying to do it. :-)
