New To Forum....
Hello everyone I am Susan and I have been a member off and on of OH for the past 2 1/2 years.
After having to quit work due to many health issues, I was forced to face no insurance again! At this point in time I am fighting Medicaid for approval so I might can get back to a Dr. regual and so that I might can have the WLS. Until then I am trying the non-surgical side of this and hoping this may work better than anything else.
At this point in time I am on ANOTHER diet, it goes a little something like this....Water in the AM, solids or broths up to 1,000 calories for lunch and Water the rest of the day. I will do this for 2-3 weeks then I will lower my cal intake to about 800 and stick with this. I am drinking 1 protein shake a day with Multi-Vitamins.
Does anyone have a better idea or suggestion? My biggest problem is not much exercise do to my other health issues.
I am weighing in at 285# !
Hugs to all from an Alabama Gal!

Welcome back Susan!
Unless you are working with a doctor on the diet you described I very much recommend you eat more, especially a breakfast. I also think you shouldn't consider it a diet--dieting isn't going to be your long term solution, changing your eating patterns is. It's helped me to think that I am not dieting but making a life change.
Regarding exercise, its all about building up slowly. Four months ago I could barely walk 100 yards without resting. In that time I've gotten out and walked a little bit each day trying to build up my endurance and I'm now close to walking a mile. Simple things matter. I used to have to put a chair in the kitchen and sit at the sink to do the dishes because it was too difficult to stand that long, but I worked on trying to stand longer and longer each time to where now I get through it very well. Little simple victories like that make the difference and help you continue.
Keep at it and welcome!
Hi Susan! Glad you're here!
is this a doc prescribed diet? Several folsk here are trying Optifast, which sounds similar except solids for lunch. Solids - interesting term - do you mean salads, rice, meat? If so, that is not too bad, more like what I am doing right now.
I try to stick to bariatric foods for most of my mini-meals all day long: hi pro cappacinno in the morning, couple hours later, 1/2 protein bar, couple hours later, high protein soup & soy chips, and so on til supper. Then I have a normal supper with DH, keeping portions down. Works for me.
I do use normal high pro foods where possible: cottage cheese, string cheese, lean meat, but i love the convenience of the bariatric foods. and it changes it all up.
Good luck and come back!
Hiya Susan,
Most medical weight loss programs won't let you do an 800 calorie or below diet unless you're being medically supervised on a weekly basis, so I wouldn't drop any lower than what you're already at unless you have someone doing labs/ekg/etc....
And especially without exercise, you need to spread your calories out across the day as evenly as possible to keep your metabolism running. Skipping breakfast is a no no for 99% of successful longterm dieters. What are the health issues which are keeping you from exercising?
Thank you all for the input and the warm welcome. No this is not a Dr. approved diet. I decided to do this "diet" bcuz a while back I was sick with cancer and could barely eat. I lost well with the food I did eat so I wanted to try it again, this time on purpose.
This is my yesturdays food journal (I tend to eat a bit more than I feel I should):
Beef steak, braised, lean only eaten | 253 | 10 | 0 | 38
White potato, baked, peel eaten, NS as to fat added in cooking | 155 | 2 | 31 | 3
Butter, NFS | 102 | 12 | 0 | 0 | |||
Caesar salad (with romaine) | 138 | 11 | 5 | 4
Thousand Island dressing | 353 | 33 | 14 | 1
Totals | 1001 | 69 | 50 | 46 |

Hi Susan,
Welcome! I am so happy you are here with us and you are better. I have been watching what I eat and dieting for a while now, with success. I'm just concerned that you really are not eating enough. Your body is going to react differently to your food/liquid intake now that you are not sick.
My suggestion is to talk with your primary care physician about your ideas and desire to lose weight. I think it would be much more healthy to ask him/her for a diet suggestion/plan than to create one on your own. Liquid diets are very hard to stay focused on, but can be done. Honestly, I know I would not be able to do a liquid diet. But as Neecee mentioned people on this forum are succeeding with that choice-I would ask them for some suggestions too.
You can do this. We are all here to help you.

You also mentioned a vitamin shake - that must have some calories as well, right? That will bring up your calories.
The good thing about a "too low" caloire plan is that most of us can't do it too long! LOL Your body will not let you go without a struggle on that one.
I also meant to say that this kind of thing, of course, is good for a short term push in the right direction. There will be a transistion period that needs to be something you will do for the rrest of your life.
Welcome back. First I must tell you i hate that four letter word DIET! Because the first three letter are all I see DIE, and every time I go on a diet I die a little. I have had to change my way of thinking and Now I have a new eating lifestyle.
I can tell you from reading posts and having a hubby that just had VSG every body says pretty much the same thing. High protein low carbs. I started cutting back on carbs about a month ago and lost a little weight. Then my hubby had surgery. I decided after reading many many posts that people who have changed their eating lifestyle sounded so happy. So I have done pretty much what he has don and I went from losing 6lbs in 3 weeks to losing 8lbs in one week. The change isn't that hard when you have the support and he has been as much of a support to me as I have been to him.
Always 64 oz of water a day, but when you eat try not to drink for at least 30 minutes. I can tell you the nut my DH sees says get those proteins first. We both take multivitamins everyday. I have Rhuematiod Arthritis and a few other health issues so I need to get the weight off and I have noticed my joints don't hurt so much. Partly from the water lubricating them and partly from the weight loss.
Good luck and God Bless
Everyone will be happy to know that I have decided to stay with a 1,200 cal meal plan NOT "DIET"! And Sorry but as for eating in the AM...this may sound crazy but as long as I have been able to remember eating in the AM makes me very sick to my tummy (mainly due to IBS). As for spreading out the cals I will do just that..I promise! As of 2 days ago my cal intake was approx. 3,200 per day so this is a big change for me. Unfortunetally I have no insurance and can not go to a Dr. at this time. I am fighing for state insurance as we speak! Maybe I will be blessed and someone will call with the good new of an approval! Thanks again for all the input, it does realy help me alot!!!!!

Hey lady.........IBS stuck out to me....I thought and my doctor's thought for years that I had suffered from it......it actually turned out to be an intolerance to wheat (gluten) and ever since the day that I eliminated it from my diet things got so much better.......I went on a totally gluten free diet for several years and never felt better........every now and then I do eat something with wheat but I know that there may be consequences (after I've given my colon a rest)........try a little experiment (it's easier now that products have to be labeled with allergy sensitive information) give up gluten for a little bit see what happens
