I've been talking to one of my friends, and she says that her doctor prescribed phentramine to help control her appetite for weight loss. She combines the pills with a ww diet and exercise and she's lost  about 30 pounds so far (in almost 3 months)  Which isn't very fast when you consider how fast  you loose after wls, but I think its great! I was just wondering if anyone has tried phentramine or other prescription wl pills or over the counter wl pills. Any sucesss?? I know I need to find a  diet I can follow and start exercising, but If I could find something to help control my appetite I think I would have more success in the beginning.

I am taking phendimetrazine, and for me the loss was rather slow as well - of course two months had lots more parties in them - Nov/Dec.  I lost 21# in five months.  I did worse than your friend.  I think slow loss is much better, actually. It tells me we may have learned somehting baout managing eating eating real food challenges!

Hiya,      While I've never taken anything which is specifically for weight loss, both of the meds I take for other things can cause weight loss.  I'm on Wellbutrin for my OCD which helps to stop food cravings (head hunger).  That one I take every day, and I think it is a nice complement to diet/exercise.        The other thing I'm supposed to take daily for my ADHD is Adderall, which is a methamphetamine, and thus an appetite suppressant.  In reality, I take it less than once a month because while it temporarily eliminates appetite, I find that overall it just really throws my body off as far as any kind of regular schedule.  Since I'm not working as a PA right now, it really isn't too harmful to have an attention problem during the day, so I'd just rather avoid the side effects.  I have to be very careful not to go too long without eating if I've taken it, and skipping meals is very bad for dieting. (I also have Essential Tremor, and Adderall exacerbates that.)  It also can interfere with my sleep patterns, and lack of sleep contributes to weight gain as well.      You'll just have to see if one of the appetite suppressants works for you, and if it outweighs your side effects.

Hey there. In my experience over the counter weight loss medication doesn't do much of anything to help. Some work for a very limited time but eventually lose their efficacy. For some you'll immediately start to gain the weight back after you stop taking them. I lost 35 lbs. on Metabolife way back when it was brand new, but gained them and more back when I stopped. I think they've since changed the formula because it doesn't seem to be half as effective as it used to be anyway. However, I don't know anything about any prescription weight loss drugs because almost every doctor I've had has scoffed at the idea of prescribing them for me and not-so-gently informed me that my weight problems were due to a lack of self-control. Well, after 79 lbs. lost, I can safely say they can kiss my self-controlled tush! *Grins* Just kidding. Somayeh P.S. Grats on the loss, Julie!  That's great!

I've tried both prescription and non-prescription.  Prescription definitely hasn't worked for me. I've tried phentermine which I think is what phentramine is supposed to resemble but neither have anything in common. The only non-prescription that has worked has since been removed from the market by the FDA.  I used a liquid fat burner called Clenbutrx that contained ephedrine.  The ephedrine was the key ingredient and what I beileve caused the weight loss. However, it was removed from the market as a diet supplement and I gained the weight back within a year's time plus 30 lbs. I also tried Zantrex-3 which gave me a boost but really didn't do anything for me weight-wise. So I choose to do it the natural way without the pills.  I think the results are more rewarding and longer-lasting.

I know I'm looking for a quick fix, or an easy way out when I'm trying to find a diet pill that works, but I feel like I need something to give me a boost, at least in the beginning. The thing I hate about starting a diet (or a healthy way of eating) and/or exercise plan is that it seems to take FOREVER to see any results. If I only loose .5-1 lb a week  I feel like its not even worth all the suffering and I give up or give in to temptation. I know thats silly, cause any loss is a good thing, especially where I'm at now with my health problems, but i find it hard to convince myself that is true.  Its hard to be strong and resist when my mind is arguing with itself! lol

This sounds allllll to familiar.  I was where you are about 2 months ago.  You're teetering on the diet or no diet decision.  I was there for at least 6 months, before that I was not even teetering. I had made up my mind I would not diet or exercise because it wasn't worth it and the only way I could lose weight was with surgery.  I don't know what happened. I just made up my mind one day I was gonna do this and here I am.  You said that it doesn't happen fast enough but I think you're slightly mistaken. In the first week when I switched to drinking only water I lost almost 10 lbs. The next week I cut back my food intake but ate the same stuff I always had and I lost another 5-8lbs.  Then it did slow down but I always screwed up a LOT and still am.  However, I'm 2 months into my latest journey and I'm down 32-33lbs.  That's awesome progress! It will continue to slow down for me though but I'm ready for it. I have everyone here with all their knowledge and support, plus I have tops!  Perhaps you can just start trying some few simple things?  Maybe try drinking 20 ounces of water more than you normally would.  After you're comfortable with that you could try replacing sodas, juice or whatever else it is that you drink instead of water. It's a place to start and it honestly isn't going to hurt!  It's much easier to sacrifice our drink than our food.  The food will come, you'll get there, I promise! You can do it, I know you can!  Baby steps!

You really lost 10 pounds the first week just by drinking extra water? How much water were/are you drinking? I heard that you are supposed to take half you body weight in ounces and thats how much water you should drink to stay hydrated when your dieting...don't know were I heard that, but it's supposed to work. HOWEVER, that is ALOT of water to drink in one day!! ALOT!!  Thanks for all the encouragement! It helps to know people are rooting for me!
