Hello! I am new to this forum (only been on OH for 2 weeks). Originally I started out wanting the LapBand. I needed some instant gratification! Long story... I was denied. I am a 28yo 260 pound mother of 2 boys (1 and 2). I have fought weight all of my life but never "obese" until the past 6 years (since I met my hubby). now I am desperate to get control of my life back while I am sitll young enough to enjoy it. I was very disappointed to learn I was denied. I moped for a couple of days and then finally said that I would have to make the changes either way and that I could do this.  I signed up for a very intense WL program that integrates modern medicine with non traditional treatment for WL. I am very excited about the program. I will keep you posted on my progress. I meet with the team (MD,RD, behavioral specialilst and exercise therapist) weekly for 4 mos. Last week was my consult and this Friday I get the meat of my program. Then it all begins. One of the things that the MD wanted me to research was WuLong Tea. Anyone ever heard of it? I am currently drinking a lot of coffee bc I need the boost. He said that this tea will give me that boost and it has a slimiming affect. I have only read good things but wanted someone elses opinion.  Thanks, J

I think Chris (who is not here right now - on vaca) is going to get some and try it. I had to LOL when I read the Enviga can - a eecg green tea extract item that totes fat burning. The comment says, in people ages 18-35, this product has been known to burn fat"   Hell, being age 18-35 burns fat!  I say try it all til you drop.

Hi there.  I am also a mother of two (6 and 8).  My starting weight was 320.  My doctor referred me for surgery and two years later after being denied and appealing and being denied and appealing again and denied I was so frustrated. I started eating healthy bought a good pair of shoes and a bike and 6 months later I now weigh 215.  I still have a lot of work to do but it is possible to do this without surgery.  I have never tried the Wulong Tea but I do drink a cup of green tea several times a week.  Usually in the evening when I might be feeling a liitle hungry I will have a cup.  It seems to take that edge off.  Keep us posted with your progress.  I am interested in knowing what the "meat" of your program entails.  Welcome to our board.

Mamanay what kind of green tea do you drink. Because I remember trying green tea a year ago and ugh it was nasty. And I always read that Green Tea has a good effect on weight loss. So what brand do you use? And I like sweet tea so I always use equal or something in my tea.

Howdy !!  I read about oolong or wulong tea a while back and had asked some questions here about it. Seems no one has really tried it here.   What I know about the tea is that is does burn twice as many calories as green tea when it is consumed on a regular basis. (without sugar) It does contain caffeine but not nearly as much as coffee. About 3 cups of green tea will burn around 75-80 calories.  So if it is true that drinking the oolong tea burns twice the amount of calories as green tea then that means you can burn 150-160 calories a day just by drinking the stuff. Add about 15 minutes of strenuous exercise or 30-45 mins of moderate exercise and  you'll burn well more than 500 calories a day.  If you're eating 5,000 calories a day this isn't going ot amount to a hill of beans but if you're eating 1800 or less this is going to definitely contribute to your weight loss.  So I guess what I am saying is that oolong tea is not a fix-all for obesity but when it is used along with proper nutrition and exercise you are sure to lose weight. I believe the doctor has made this suggestion to you to help ween you off of the coffee and jump start your program. You probalby drink your coffee with milk/creamer and sugar like most people do. I think it's the sugar here that the doc is trying to get you to stop. I drink coffee on a daily basis but I don't use sugar and I use very little cream (about 5 calories worth). I replaced sugar with artificial sweetener like splenda or sweet-n-low.  Aside from the sugar and creamer I do not believe that coffee makes you gain weight. In fact it is known that caffeine does help you to lose weight, at least until your body becomes immune to its affects. So in a nutshell if you can give up the coffee and switch to the tea by all means go ahead.  There are also other ingredients in the tea that your body will greatly benefit from. More so than the coffee.  Wulong tea promotes better skin, healthier teeth, and strengthens your immune system (antioxidants).   In summary, switching to the wulong tea from the coffee is a win-win situation.  It's much healthier than coffee and does promote weight loss but don't look to it as a modern day miracle or panacea. For me, I'll drink coffee because it tastes good and my body love a stiff jolt in the morning! :)

Kris, thanks for all of the information. My doctor did recommend the tea to get me off of the tons of sugar and french vanilla creamer that I add to it. I am excited to try the tea (I am getting some today). It will be used in addition to a very strict diet and exercise that I am starting (supervised by MD). I will let you all know how that goes... I am ready to start this off!

you can buy it online. Just google WuLong tea. I thinkt he web address is wulongteaforlife.com or something similar. My MD's office also sells it. It is about $30.00/box and that contains 60 bags. There are also always specials on-line that are like buy 2 get 2 free deals. There is lots of research out there about it...just go online. it is not to be used as the ONLY weight modification, it is to be used in conjunction with diet and exercise.
